What is Shiva Foundation 's mission?
What’s the story behind it❓️
❗️My answer goes back to when I was a teenager in India. I began getting stray dogs spayed and neutered. Without that work, our street could have filled with more dogs....seen by many as a nuisance. Competition for food, territory, and mates led to fights, injuries, and suffering. Spay and neuter changed that. Fewer puppies were born into hardship, and the dogs already there had a better chance at a decent life.
That experience shaped the mission I chose for Shiva Foundation. Here, so many stray cats are seen as a nuisance, and people want them gone. I asked myself: How can we make a lasting impact by reducing overpopulation and suffering? ❗️Our answer is TNR and spay/neuter: stop adding to the number of cats while helping those already here live healthier lives.
We’ve been doing this work for the past year, and we’ll keep doing it in the years ahead. Rescue is vital when an animal needs immediate help, but it can only treat part of the problem. To create lasting change, we have to address overpopulation at its roots.
🙏 We want to focus our limited funds on TNR. When we have $500 to spend, we have to consider: could it help spay or neuter 15 cats and prevent future suffering or spend treating 1 cat ? Unfortunately we have to make decisions logically for the greater good even if we don't want to. As a young organization, we face financial challenges, so staying focused on our mission helps us make the greatest impact possible.
