🏔️ ONE OF THE GREAT UNTOLD STORIES OF THE AMERICAN WEST — AND YOU CAN WALK IT IN PERSON.
In 1877, the Nez Percé people — outnumbered, outgunned, and fighting for their survival — led the U.S. Army on one of the most remarkable strategic retreats in military history. Nearly 800 men, women, and children covered over 1,100 miles through some of the most rugged terrain in North America, passing through the newly established Yellowstone National Park and winning battle after battle against a pursuing army. They came within 40 miles of the Canadian border before they were stopped.
This August, our friends at Woodbury Historical Tours are taking a small group to follow that entire trail — from Spokane, Washington to Great Falls, Montana — guided by historian Neil Mangum.
📅 August 22 – September 1, 2026
Along the way, you'll visit:
✅ The battles of Spokane Plains, Four Lakes, and Steptoe Battlefield
✅ Nez Percé National Historical Park and Fort Lapwai
✅ Camas Meadows, Henry's Lake, and the Nez Percé route through Yellowstone
✅ Norris Geyser Basin and Mammoth Hot Springs
✅ Canyon Creek Battlefield — the Nez Percé rearguard action against the 7th Cavalry
✅ And a full day at Little Bighorn Battlefield: Reno's Valley Fight, Last Stand Hill, and all stops on the battlefield
This isn't a bus tour with a microphone. This is a small-group, deep-dive experience led by someone who has spent his career studying these campaigns on the ground.
