Announcing new leadership for the LAVA: Life After Virginia Foundation.

Today we're proud to share an important next step for LAVA — the Life After Virginia Foundation.

We're honored to welcome Barry Simmons as our newly elected Board Chair. Barry brings the vision, heart, and steady leadership to carry this brotherhood into its next chapter — and we couldn't be more excited about where he'll take us.

We're also thrilled to welcome three outstanding new members to our Board of Directors: Bill Curry, Jared Green, and Barry Word. Each of them embodies what LAVA is all about — Wahoos who never stopped showing up for one another. Their experience, character, and commitment to our brothers will make us stronger.

And as we look ahead, we want to look back with gratitude.

To Doug Duenkel — thank you. As our founding Board Chair, you helped turn an idea into a foundation. You led us through our very first year, laid the groundwork, and set a standard of service that will guide us for years to come. We're grateful for everything you have helped build.

For athletes especially, life after sports can bring challenges that many people never see.

At LAVA , we believe in new beginnings and the power of community. We are committed to creating conversations, connections, and support systems that remind current and former student-athletes that they never have to go through life alone.
