I've made this post 3 times, and 3 times Instagram has eaten it. So I'm trying again to update you all on the new Hogwaller pigs.

Dr. Linc came out to see them this week. They got an exam and vaccines and a plan to take care of their lice infection.

Patricia and Turtle got an antibiotic injection for their skin infection, then they all got moved into a big pen of their own!

You guys, these are just such lovely pigs! I dont know how they ended up where and how they were found, but at some point somebody put time into these guys. They are socialized and we'll mannered and respectful. As starving as they were I would absolutely forgive them for being food driven and pushy, but whike food is definitely their priority they are so polite when I bring them food. They dont shove me at all and I have never felt overwhelmed or scared by them. And they are A LOT of pig now that they are gaining weight, so it would be easy for them to overwhelmed me, but they don't. They are just such good kids.

They are gaining weight quickly and are already much healthier and happier. Their skin looks better, their coats are growing back and they are starting to look like themselves again.

Im so happy they were found when they were and we were able to help them

Had a little drama on the farm yesterday.

Our farrier Blair, and our volunteer, Altas, we're working on trims when out of nowhere Sweet Girl had, what the vet is diagnosing as a seizure, or some kind of transient ischemic episode.

It was enough to scare the heck out of Blair and Altlas, and turn me and the kids around and back home in a hurry.

Dr Shane was kind enough, and fortunate enough, to be really close by and headed straight to us.

By the time he got here she had passed the post-seizure phase (postictal phase) and was back to normal. There was no evidence of it being anything other than a random event so there isnt really anything we can do except keep an eye on her.

Sweet Girl is a very old (25+) thoroughbred who is otherwise healthy and happy, albeit with some not unusual arthritic changes.

So, we monitor and cross our fingers that this was a random event and not the beginning of a pattern.

Today she is happily grazing and eating and laying in the sun, acting like she didnt give us all minor cardiac events yesterday.

Horses, man.

Oliver says 'Hi! And thanks for the rain!'

We've been in the middle of a 20 year record drought. But for the last 3 days, and hopefully a few more, its been wonderfully rainy.

Well, they did it. Our duck/goose/goose mama team hatched and egg.....and promptly abandoned it 🙄

We found this little fellow sans shell, but still wet and cold. All 3 mamas (and I use that term begrudgingly) had picked up their remaining eggs, moved them into a new nest 3 feet away and were sitting there staring at him like he had 2 heads.

We brought him in, put him on some heat to dry and warm up, and crossed our fingers. The next morning he was dry and fluffy and had many, many opinions to share.

So, meet Ryan Gosling!

He's going to be rotten, but we love it, and him.

We had an amazing day yesterday at our volunteer orientation!

Ray, our livestock guardian dog, struggled through social interaction.
Piggies got belly rubs
Sheep had conversations
And Ray continued to struggle
Piggies got more cuddles
Our new hogs got some attention
And still, Ray struggled on.....🙄

We made some wonderful new friends, expanded our FBF family, and made plans for the future.

If you are in terested in volunteering, message us any time!

They did it!

Our pheasant ladies hatched 4 little ones.

4 little poults! We have our own bouquet of pheasants.

Ours are silver pheasants. They are native to the mountains of Asia and Hawaii.

Our pheasants came to us through an animal control seizure with Isle of Wight County Animal Services in Isle of Wight County. We have 1 male (Enzo) and his 2 ladies. They have their own enclosure, because the males can be aggressive, which we'll have to enlarge now.

But that's ok! Whatever we have to do to make them happy is exactly what we'll do.

We had an emergency intake today, and it was a testament to how community works.

On the weekend a family was cycling along a trail in town. On a nostalgic whim they stopped by the old stockyards 3xpecting it to be empty.

It was not.

Alone in the dark they found 4 pigs who had been forgotten by their buyer. No food. No water. Not even a dry place to lie.

But they didn't ignore these helpless creatures. They reached out to a local small animal rescue who reached out to us.

Through our amazing, gutsy and determined rescue connection we were able to bring these sweet babes to the farm today.

3 boars, one older sow.

2 of them have serious skin infections.
They all have lice.
The sow is at least 75lb under weight.
The boys need a good 30lbs.
They all have bite and scratch injuries.

They are scared, they are tired, they are hungry.

But they are safe.

They will need refeeding and immediate vetting.

I will post a video of them as they were found, but I'm going to nest it in the comments because its quite hard to watch.

If you are in a position to help we would be so grateful. These are supposed to be big hogs and they will need a significant amount of food to get to weight in addition to vetting and likely spay/neuter too.
