Observed each year on May 1, Silver Star Service Banner Day recognizes:

⭐ Those who have been awarded the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in combat, and
⭐ The wounded, ill, and injured service members who have sacrificed for our country

Today, and every day, we honor their courage, resilience, and dedication. Their service reminds us that freedom comes at a cost — one that is carried long after the battlefield fades.

We are forever grateful.

Behind every warrior, there's a caregiver.

This May, we honor the invisible heroes: our military caregivers. The spouses, parents, siblings, and friends who show up every single day with strength, compassion, and love.

Your service is powerful, and your sacrifices are deeply felt.

We thank you — not just this month, but always. 🙌

Veterans live in every county — but access to resources doesn't.

That's the gap we're working to close through fiscal sponsorship: a way for Veteran-led and Veteran-serving changemakers to launch programs, raise funds, and build something real in their communities, without the burden of forming a nonprofit from scratch.

If you have an idea that could change lives where you live, we'd love to hear about it: https://www.veteranscollaborative.org/launch

Too many Veterans and military families are navigating fragmented systems and underfunded local resources — not because solutions don't exist, but because access does.

We believe that changes when Veterans lead, when communities invest in local innovation, and when we stop working in silos and start working together.

That's our why. And it drives everything we do.

Some stories were never meant to be lost.

In 1973, a devastating fire at the National Personnel Records Center destroyed millions of military service records, and with them, the documented histories of countless Veterans. For many, that loss still carries real consequences today, from missing recognition to denied benefits and even the absence of proper military honors.

Ashes to Honor is working to change that.

Through careful research, collaboration, and a deep respect for those who served, their team is rebuilding what was lost, piece by piece. They are helping Veterans and their families reclaim records, restore recognition, and ensure that service is never forgotten.

This mission is personal, and it is urgent, because behind every missing record is a life, a family, and a legacy that deserves to be remembered.

With the right support and access to original documents, more stories can be recovered, more honors can be restored, and more families can finally receive the acknowledgment they have waited for.

Today we’re wearing purple to celebrate military kids, the ones who grow up in a world that looks a little different than most.

They make new friends quickly, learn to adapt, and carry a lot of pride for their families along the way. It’s not always easy, but they handle it in ways that are pretty incredible to watch.

Today feels like a good day to give them a little extra love and recognition. If you have a military child in your life, let them know you’re thinking of them. 💜

🖤🤍 April 9th is National Former POW Recognition Day.

Today, we honor the service members who endured captivity during wartime, often for long periods of time and under conditions most of us can’t fully imagine.

Many were separated from their families for months or years, missing everyday moments and milestones that can never be replaced.

While April 9th marks the beginning of the Bataan Death March in 1942, this day extends far beyond one moment in history. It is about every former prisoner of war and the experiences they carry.

We remember them, we acknowledge what they lived through, and we continue to stand alongside them and their families.

There are more than 1.6 million kids growing up in military families, learning how to adjust to new schools, new homes, and new routines more often than most.

They figure things out quickly, and they make new friends. They also say goodbye more times than they should have to.

Purple represents every branch of the military, and this month, it represents them too.

💜 A small reminder to notice the kids who are navigating all of this alongside the people who serve.

Today, we recognize Gold Star Spouses and the lives they continue to carry forward with strength, love, and quiet resilience.

The Gold Star tradition dates back to World War I, when families would hang a blue star for a loved one in service. If that service member was lost, the blue star was replaced with gold, a symbol of sacrifice that has endured for generations.

April 5th marks the founding of the Gold Star Wives of America in 1945, and today stands as a national day of remembrance and recognition.

Behind every Gold Star is a story of deep love, loss, and continued courage.

We remember. We honor. We stand alongside you. ❤️🤍💙

March is Women's History Month, a time to recognize the leadership and contributions of women across generations.

At Veterans Collaborative, that recognition is close to home.

Our team is made up entirely of women who bring experience, care, and a deep sense of responsibility to this work every day. The initiatives we lead and the partnerships we build are shaped by that perspective and commitment.

As the month comes to a close, we are proud of the role we play and focused on continuing to serve the Veteran community with intention and purpose. 🇺🇸
