Two amazing kitties at the Petsmart in Matthews, NC!

Pumpkin is 5 years old, orange and white, and very sweet! She was surrendered by her owner—and we have no idea why! She is ready for a true furrever home!

Delaware is 3 years old, sweet, and playful! He was dumped behind a store, and we took him in. He is black and white. He loves pets and might even sit on your shoulder!

To meet them, contact Laura at 704-877-0916.

Two more great cats available for adoption!

Aires is a 5-year-old orange tabby who was abandoned by his owner at a high-kill shelter. He is sweet and calm!

Neeko is 9-months old and was rescued from Animal Care & Control--the only one of his litter who wasn't scooped up by others. He has typical kitten energy and l loves to play!

If you would like to meet either of these lovely kitties, text or call Laura at 704-877-0916.

Walking thru the shelter with another volunteer, I saw several majestic and beautiful cats that had already been “tagged for Rescue.”
For those that do not know, what has been my life for the last 20 years is seeking those animals that no one wants, or may have deformities or just simply tossed away by the world and left to rot..
No animal should die because it didn’t make the cut..
They say that a lot of rescuers are drawn to Rescue because of personal things that may have created a compassion to love what is not lovely. Adversity will either create compassion, or it will create apathy and in my case it created compassion.
This fella was left behind by Rescue, the rest of his litter made it out. He looked sad and like he had given up…
Seeing all of those beautiful cats that had been tagged by Rescue, and looking at this dejected Kitten just got ahold of my heart and I told my friend “ I’m not leaving him. He’ll end up in the wrong hands or he’ll die here.”
Rescue is not about rescuing what is physically beautiful in order to market that animal to the public so you can get it out quickly.
Rescue should be about rescuing the ones that need help, I know we cannot get them all, and we cannot save them all but rescuing on the basis of how an animal looks, should not be what is driving the ship, but unfortunately, it is happening everywhere.
I don’t place any blame on the shelters, I know that they are being mandated to get animals out before euthanasia happens so with these scenarios, I’m sure that they have to look the other way when one gets left behind…
This little fella just came back from the vet and he is ready to go, he was confiscated by Animal Control and then left behind while his other litter mates got out, he’s got a couple strikes, but I’m believing that this time he’s got a fighting chance!!!
Welcome NEEKO to NO KILL CAT COLLECTIVE!!!!

Edited to add: Jill, Lola, and Lilly have all been adopted!!

We currently have four extraordinarily sweet cats at Petsmart:

Jill is a 5-month-old tabby who is a perfect combination of playful and affectionate. She will play like crazy (especially if there's a crinkle ball!) but will also let you pick her up and love on her.

Loki is an adult Russian Blue. He greets everyone with purrs, and he demands to be let out of his kennel for pets and play.

Lola (slightly orange tabby) and Lilly (tabby) are a bonded pair who have to be adopted together. They are very chill, and Lola in particular will jam her head under your hand so that you have to pet her! Lilly also likes pets but is not as demanding!

If you would like to meet any and all of these cats, please text Laura at 704-877-0916.

How would you like to be in a home where you were safe and then all of a sudden you’re being packed up and you’re now sitting in a tiny cubby where everything is loud and your owner is nowhere in sight. The lights get turned out and you hear other animals whimpering.
You keep hoping your owner is coming back because you’re getting nervous and then by day three or four you’re shutting down and with the overcrowding in the shelter it’s a toss up as to if you’ll get out of there at all. You realize your owner isn’t coming back….
In North Carolina, we are the number two state in euthanasia and animal dumping. We, with four other states make up over half of the nations euthanasia numbers. This means many of these owner surrenders will never make it out, and in my opinion, will probably die of a broken spirit even before they get euthanized.
These three cats were owner surrenders, the reasons were never given, or they were very generic.
Sugar the tabico was brought in and labeled Feral and was scheduled to be euthanized in two hours that day.
Turns out she was just scared but the shelter was going to euthanize anyway……
It took quite some time to find deserving families, but Maryjane, Colson, Sugar and Faze found their forever homes.
While we celebrate the fact that these four cats are safe and will never be discarded again, we should be more diligent than ever to do what it takes to help others that are still just waiting to die.
Congratulations guys!! You made it out safe!!!
We will keep praying and working hard for the others still in need..

Wanted everyone to know that Marmelade came into the rescue with quite the backstory but also a little unpredictable at times.
There is always a cat in the crew, that sometimes people think they are going to be hard to adopt or they just seem to have bad days and good days and it could be they’re just adjusting to life as they know it.
People do not realize how much money, time, resources, and manpower that goes into these guys when they come in. Marmelade’s new owner sent me a message and I wanted to let everyone know this is why we do what we do, it is for no other reason than to save a life and hopefully touch the hearts of those who adopt them. Marmalade’s owner told me that he had gone through a very painful time in his life and that Marmelade has filled a void that he did not know was there.
He told me that she immediately knew that she was home and he just could not imagine life without her.
He told me that she watches the birds and sometimes just sits and watches the breeze in the trees and follows the trail of the squirrels, running around, just wonderfully at peace and then jumps down and takes her favorite toys to her bed and takes a long nap…
He told me that she was the greatest gift and that she came at a time in his life when he needed her.
This is why it’s so important to not give up on the ones that can be a little tense or skittish in the pet center, sometimes they just are waiting maybe a little bit impatiently but they’re waiting for their person.
Marmalade had a rough start, but she’s finally home and more importantly, she has someone that loves her unconditionally..

If we can make just a few people happy, then I guess it means the world is a happier place. Most people don’t understand the hard work that goes into Rescue. Lot of dirty, hard work, but making someone Happy, and making them feel a little bit more joyful in their life is worth it. Hopefully, we can be the small drop in the bucket that makes a difference in the euthanasia rates that continue to go up in the state of North Carolina.
We will keep working hard to help people smile, and hopefully make a difference that decreases the number of animals that will have to lose their life due to apathy, Shelter overcrowding, and irresponsible Pet ownership.
We can at least try…… I think..

As euthanasia rates continue to go up in North Carolina, we continue to strive to do our best to help needy and homeless cats find their forever home. Although times are tough for everyone, people are still wanting the companionship and unconditional love that fur babies offer. We have folks from all over looking for that fur baby that completes their family. Whether young or older, animals take up that place in the heart and gives a deeper meaning for life….
We are excited for the cats that found forever homes. Most of us have our own fur babies and understand what it means when you adopt.
A special warm hearted thank you to the family that adopted Marmelade…. The calico with white undertones. She was pregnant and in labor in a sketchy side of town and no one would go. The caller was begging for someone stating that Marmelade would give birth at any time with Roaming Dogs on the street. We picked her up with Marmelade giving birth shortly thereafter. She turned out to be the best mother on the planet, but was a little standoffish with volunteers, but thankfully, she found the perfect fit, the messages that came in yesterday said that Marmelade had carried her toys to her new families bed and was following them all around the house. SHE’S HOME!!!!
If you have it in your heart and you can do so, please help us continue to do what we do with donations… tax deductible.

SHE DIES IN TWO HOURS. LABELED “ SPICY.” THIS CAT IS TERRIFIED.
We can get this kitty vetted, but I’m reaching out to see if anyone has any friends who might own a barn or has land, I understand that our country is in a tough place when it comes to animals, but this is heartbreaking because I feel like there is hope. I know we cannot save them all, but the ones that cross our paths, I believe we should at least try.
The cat is over two hours away, but Transport can be taken care of as well as a vetting, and once the cat has been acclimated and ready, she would make a good Barn Cat, from the video I think the cat is absolutely terrified, if you know of anyone or have any resources, please holler at me, 704-877-0916

The man walked into a rural shelter and asked that this cat be euthanized because he had fleas, he told the Shelter the cat was his best friend and when they reached out to me, they said he was the only cat left after an adoption weekend and he had to be put down at 2 o’clock.
The beautiful Tuxie turned out to be my boy…. MANNIE.
The first three weeks we had him he became really sick and the vet couldn’t find anything wrong with him, but said there was a syndrome called broken heart syndrome.
I can’t imagine calling a cat your best friend and then asking for euthanasia, and it turned out Mannie didn’t have fleas.
He has been THE BEST companion I could ever ask for, it has always been about saving lives and trying to create a happy ending for the ones that come our way..
If we just give them a chance, I think that’s all they really want.
MANNIE is getting older, but still the best companion a pet owner could ever ask for.
I don’t know who that man was, but he made a big mistake, asking that Mannie be euthanized, this is the best cat on the planet, and I’m not sure what kind of person you would have to be to request something like that. Breaks my heart. It happens everyday. We have to do better…
