Building confidence starts with having the right tools. 💙

This month, our workshops gave families practical skills they can use every day to strengthen their financial well-being and family relationships.

💰 Budgeting Basics with PNC was offered twice, giving families the opportunity to learn how to create a budget, manage expenses, and build healthy financial habits.

💙 Triple P Parenting with Anuvia was also offered twice, equipping parents with practical strategies to strengthen relationships, build confidence, and navigate everyday parenting challenges.

Thank you to our incredible community partners for sharing your time, expertise, and encouragement with the families we serve. Together, we’re helping families build a stronger foundation for the future.

✨ July Milestones ✨

Every step forward matters. Throughout July, families in our Family Success Program continued making meaningful progress toward greater stability, opportunity, and independence.

💙 Sakeythia started a full-time position with CATS and joined the Dream Key Program, bringing her one step closer to her housing goals.

💙 Perise developed a five-month budget, began saving toward a $500 goal, and is continuing her education by pursuing a Machine Learning certification.

💙 Paulette moved her business forward by obtaining an EIN, completing her notary commission, and establishing an online presence.

💙 Pamela made important progress toward financial stability by tackling credit card debt and working to negotiate lower balances.

💙 Teriyana increased her income by beginning a part-time job.

Each milestone reflects determination, persistence, and the courage to keep moving forward. We’re proud to celebrate these achievements and honored to support families as they build brighter futures. 💙

🍽️💙 Partner Spotlight!

A huge thank you to Charlotte Wine + Food for providing a delicious dinner for our families during one of our July workshops!

Families enjoyed fried chicken, mac and cheese, and green beans while participating in the workshop, creating an opportunity to connect over a meal as they learned together. We are so grateful for partners who help make these evenings even more welcoming for our families.

💙 Volunteer Spotlight: Venus Antoinette Skinner-Singleton

Meet Venus Antoinette Skinner-Singleton, one of our incredible Family Liaisons! 🌟

A native New Yorker, Venus now calls Mount Holly home, where she lives with her husband. When she’s not mentoring, you’ll likely find her planning her next cruise 🚢, playing a game of Backgammon or Uno 🎲, or reliving childhood with Ms. Pac Man 👾. She also recently achieved a longtime goal by publishing her book, Too Many Men Not Enough God, which shares her personal journey and the reminder that no matter how far life takes you, you can always find your way back to God. 📖

Venus has a heart for serving others ❤️ and believes in making a difference while staying humble. She became a Family Liaison because she wanted to invest in someone else’s future, but she quickly discovered the experience would strengthen her as well.

“Mentoring is extremely rewarding, but little did I know that my strength of faith would increase because of my mentee, Ms. T.” ✨

She describes Ms. T. as thoughtful, determined, and inspiring. Watching her set meaningful goals, overcome obstacles, and achieve them has been one of the most rewarding parts of the journey. 🌱

We’re excited to welcome four new members to the Families Forward Charlotte Board of Directors! 🎉

✨ Kimberly Aldridge joins as Board Secretary. She is an award-winning strategist, attorney, and nonprofit leader who brings decades of experience in governance, leadership, and community impact.

✨ David Lewis joins as an At-Large Board Member. After a 34-year career with KPMG, he continues his commitment to serving organizations that help families create brighter futures.

✨ Lakissha “Kissha” Cassells-Chestnut joins as an At-Large Board Member. As a Families Forward Charlotte alumna and process improvement leader, she offers both professional expertise and lived experience that will help strengthen our mission.

✨ Jim Nason joins as an At-Large Board Member. A retired Deloitte Tax Partner, Jim brings extensive financial expertise and a passion for giving back to the community.

We’re grateful for the time, talent, and heart each of these leaders brings to Families Forward Charlotte. Their experience and passion for serving others will help us continue creating opportunities for families across our community.

At Families Forward Charlotte, our Amazon Wish List helps support students in our Family Success Program while also providing items that create a welcoming, supportive environment for children and families at our Program Center.

Stories of Strength: Ishedia’s Journey 💙

When Ishedia joined the Family Success Program, she was looking for opportunities to grow and found a community that believed in her every step of the way.

With support from her Family Liaison mentor, meaningful workshops, and encouragement from other women in the program, Ishedia gained the confidence to invest in herself and her future. One of her proudest milestones was earning her high school diploma, opening doors to new education and career opportunities.

Today, Ishedia remains connected to Families Forward Charlotte through our Alumni Program and workforce development opportunities as she continues building the future she dreamed of for herself and her family.
