May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

This one hits close to home for so many of us.

Life gets heavy sometimes. Stress, grief, anxiety, burnout…things we don’t always talk about out loud. But the truth is—more people are struggling than we realize.

At DACI, we believe prevention starts with connection.
When people feel seen, supported, and heard, it can change everything.

So this month, we’re asking you to do something simple—but powerful:
Check in on yourself.
Check in on someone else.

Send the text. Make the call. Sit with someone. Listen without trying to fix it.

You never know what someone is carrying—and your presence might be exactly what they need.

“The easiest place to get beer is between the milk and eggs.”

It might sound surprising—but 2 out of 3 youth say it’s easy to get alcohol from home or the home of a friend or relative.

Take a second look at what’s in your fridge or cabinets.
Is it as secure as you think?

Lock it up. Talk it up. Protect your home.

Most of us don’t think twice about where we keep our medications.
But the truth is—what’s sitting in a bathroom cabinet or kitchen drawer can be dangerous in the wrong hands.

Locking up your meds is one of the simplest ways to prevent misuse, addiction, and accidental harm.

It doesn’t take long.
But it can change everything.

Today is National Fentanyl Awareness Day.

Fentanyl is impacting families and communities everywhere — and too often, it’s happening silently and unexpectedly.

Just a small amount can be deadly. It can be found in pills, powders, and substances that people may not even realize are contaminated. This is why awareness, education, and access to resources matter more than ever.

At DACI, we believe prevention starts with conversation.

We encourage everyone to:

Learn the facts about fentanyl and overdose risks
Talk openly with your loved ones, especially youth
Carry and know how to use naloxone (Narcan)
Know the signs of an overdose and call 911 immediately

One conversation can save a life. One moment of awareness can change a future.

We are stronger when we protect each other. 🤍

Looking for sober weekend ideas in Iredell County? We’ve got you—just some simple, real things you can do that don’t leave you feeling rough on Monday.

🌳 This Saturday is the 24th Annual Statesville Arbor Day Celebration (10 AM–2 PM at Statesville Park & Soccer Complex). Bring the kids, walk around, grab a free tree seedling, check out Touch-a-Truck, hit the food trucks, and just enjoy being outside with the community. (We heard through the grapevine that the N.C. Forest Service will be there with Smokey the Bear! 🔥🐻)

☕ Grab coffee at a local spot and actually sit down for a bit—no rushing, no scrolling, just a chance to slow your mind down. (We're HUGE fans of Lake Mountain Coffee Statesville and Haven Bakery and Coffee!)

🚶 Take a walk at Lake Norman State Park. Trails, water, fresh air—whatever pace you need that day.

📚 Swing by the Iredell County Public Library. Pick up a book, catch a program, or just sit somewhere quiet for a minute.

🤝 If you’re looking to give back, the Rotary Club of Statesville has a volunteer opportunity at Chestnut Grove Community Center on April 17th and 18th. A few hours helping out, meeting people, and doing something that actually feels good.

🍽️ Cook something simple at home or invite a friend over and keep it low-key.

Sobriety isn’t about sitting things out—it’s about choosing weekends that feel better while you’re living them and after.

If you’re around Iredell County this weekend, hope you get out a little, connect with people, and take care of yourself in a real way.

💙 Why we do this work 💙

Honestly… this isn’t just a job to us.

We’ve seen what alcohol and substance use can do to people. We’ve seen how it affects families, friendships, and entire communities. And we’ve also seen the other side of it—the recovery, the strength, the people who fight their way back.

THAT'S why we do this.

We do this for the people who feel stuck.
For the families who don’t know where to turn.
For the ones who just need someone to show up and say, “you’re not alone in this.”

Especially during Alcohol Awareness Month, it just hits a little deeper. This work matters. These conversations matter.

If even one person feels seen, gets help, or realizes there’s another way forward because of what we’re doing… it’s worth it.

Thank you for being here and being part of this with us 💙

Quick question…have you ever heard of Narcan?

A lot of people haven’t — or aren’t really sure what it is. 🤷‍♀️

Narcan is something that can literally bring someone back from an overdose. It can help them start breathing again in MINUTES.

We like to think of Narcan as a fire extinguisher 🔥 — you keep it around and hope you never have to use it, but could save a life if you DO have to use it.

Did you also know that we have Narcan to give out to the public?

If you want to know how to get Narcan and how to use it, send us a message. We’ve got you! 😉

We want to give a HUGE shoutout to the Statesville firefighters who raced on behalf of DACI at the Driven to Make a Difference event! 🚒🏁

It was so awesome seeing you out there supporting what we do. And beyond this event, we’re SO incredibly grateful for everything you do for our community every single day—showing up when it matters most, keeping people safe, and always being there when help is needed.

We really appreciate you taking the time to come out, have fun, and make a difference with us. We’re lucky to have you! ❤️

Such a fun day at the Driven to Make A Difference Event! 🏁💙

Huge shoutout to Love United Iredell for putting together an awesome event. The energy at Trackhouse Motorplex in Mooresville was unreal—engines racing, people cheering, and just good vibes all around.

So cool seeing friends, family, and the whole community come together like that. Definitely one of those days you don’t forget anytime soon!
