This past Friday, we had the privilege of welcoming Lisa Johnson into our Impact Club! We were also honored to have District Governor Jerry Coughter join us for Rotary and officially induct Lisa into the club, making her welcome even more special.

Meet Lisa:

“Hi, I’m Lisa Johnson!

I’m the Economic Development Manager at the Cleveland County Economic Development Partnership (CCEDP), where I get to work on all things people, place, and economy.

I love bringing people together, turning ideas into action, and finding the opportunity in what’s next. Add in a Clemson degree (or three!), a love for lifelong learning, and a tendency to say ‘yes’ to a good challenge… and that’s pretty much me.

Professional by nature. Curious by choice. Always living life in crescendo.”

We know Lisa will be a wonderful addition to Impact and bring valuable ideas, energy, and a heart for our community. We are so excited to have her as part of the club!

Please join us in giving Lisa a warm welcome! 💙💛

🎉 100 Years of Service. 100 Years of Community. 100 Years of Impact!

On March 19, 1927, the Shelby Rotary Club was chartered with a simple but powerful mission: Service Above Self. One hundred years later, that mission continues to shape our community through the dedication of generations of Rotarians.

As we celebrate our Centennial Year, we'll be taking a look back at the people, projects, and moments that have defined our club.

Throughout the year, we'll be sharing:
✨ Historical milestones
📖 Stories from our past
💡 Fun facts about Shelby Rotary
👥 Spotlights on the 100 presidents who have proudly led our club
❤️ The lasting impact of Rotary in Shelby and beyond

Whether you're a current member, former member, or simply someone who loves our community, we invite you to celebrate with us as we honor our first 100 years and look ahead to the next century of service!!

Here's to 100 years of making a difference. 💙💛

Exciting news to share! Rotary Impact Club gained another talented member named Vega Weston! Vega is a graduate from NC State and currently works at Albemarle-Lithium in Kings Mountain. We know that Vega will be a great addition to our club! Yesterday evening we discussed some upcoming projects with our “Little Free Libraries.” We have some great ideas for locations. Cleveland County also has some exciting events that we will be volunteering with in the next few months. This includes Rise Against Hunger (Aldersgate UMC), Livermush Festival, Clifford’s Uptown Hounds (Uptown Shelby) and Blessing of the Animals (Baker Buffalo Winery). With the dedication of our great members, we are off to doing great things within our community!

We had another great program this past Tuesday! Kevin Oliver, CEO of Phoenix Counseling Center, spoke to us about how they help with domestic violence, sexual assault trauma, mental health needs and substance abuse in the region. They have 6 locations throughout Gaston, Cleveland and Lincoln counties. These needs are met by outpatient care, recovery centers, a halfway house and also mobile crisis management services. Luckily we have services available for the large number of people who are in need of these treatments.

Shelby Rotary Impact Club had a great meeting this evening! Carley Bostic who is the Executive Director of Uptown Shelby Association, spoke about growth in uptown Shelby and future plans for events to bring people together uptown. This non-profit association is a great asset for Shelby!

We also had Josie Rikard who is the GIS Coordinator, Cleveland County Water and also manages the Stagecoach Greenway. She spoke to us about the involvement of Cleveland County Water and the Lawndale Park, which is a recreational area that gives access to the First Broad River. They also have a proposed trail for walking and biking that will extend 3 miles from Lawndale to CCW treatment plan. This will be a great addition to the Lawndale area!

Last but not least, the Impact club will be donating our first “Free Little Library” to the Washington Outreach Ministry. We are so excited about promoting literacy in our county!
