🎉 100 Years of Service. 100 Years of Community. 100 Years of Impact!

On March 19, 1927, the Shelby Rotary Club was chartered with a simple but powerful mission: Service Above Self. One hundred years later, that mission continues to shape our community through the dedication of generations of Rotarians.

As we celebrate our Centennial Year, we'll be taking a look back at the people, projects, and moments that have defined our club.

Exciting news to share! Rotary Impact Club gained another talented member named Vega Weston! Vega is a graduate from NC State and currently works at Albemarle-Lithium in Kings Mountain. We know that Vega will be a great addition to our club! Yesterday evening we discussed some upcoming projects with our “Little Free Libraries.” We have some great ideas for locations. Cleveland County also has some exciting events that we will be volunteering with in the next few months. This includes Rise Against Hunger (Aldersgate UMC), Livermush Festival, Clifford’s Uptown Hounds (Uptown Shelby) and Blessing of the Animals (Baker Buffalo Winery). With the dedication of our great members, we are off to doing great things within our community!

We had the wonderful opportunity yesterday to attend the ribbon cutting for the new Little Free Library at Washington Outreach Ministry, Inc!!📚✨

This project has been such an exciting collaboration, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped bring it to life. We look forward to watching this Little Free Library flourish and continue to serve the community for years to come!

A special thank you to everyone who donated books and supported this project along the way. 💙

We had another great program this past Tuesday! Kevin Oliver, CEO of Phoenix Counseling Center, spoke to us about how they help with domestic violence, sexual assault trauma, mental health needs and substance abuse in the region. They have 6 locations throughout Gaston, Cleveland and Lincoln counties. These needs are met by outpatient care, recovery centers, a halfway house and also mobile crisis management services. Luckily we have services available for the large number of people who are in need of these treatments.

Shelby Rotary Impact Club had a great meeting this evening! Carley Bostic who is the Executive Director of Uptown Shelby Association, spoke about growth in uptown Shelby and future plans for events to bring people together uptown. This non-profit association is a great asset for Shelby!

We also had Josie Rikard who is the GIS Coordinator, Cleveland County Water and also manages the Stagecoach Greenway. She spoke to us about the involvement of Cleveland County Water and the Lawndale Park, which is a recreational area that gives access to the First Broad River. They also have a proposed trail for walking and biking that will extend 3 miles from Lawndale to CCW treatment plan. This will be a great addition to the Lawndale area!

Last but not least, the Impact club will be donating our first “Free Little Library” to the Washington Outreach Ministry. We are so excited about promoting literacy in our county!
