The Rowan Family Crisis Council is very grateful for the tremendous support it receives from our community. As a non-profit organization, without this support, it would be very difficult to help women and children who have been victims of r**e, in**st, sexual assault or domestic violence rebuild their lives. CHICKWEED is a non-profit agency that raises funds to help the Rowan Family Crisis Council

build sustainable community leadership and educate people in our neighborhoods about the importance of respect and healthy relationships – the relationships that all individuals, families, and communities need and deserve. CHICKWEED ~ Celebrating Indestructible Women ~ is a grass-roots fundraiser brain-child of (7) local women who participate in the art/music/dance scene in Salisbury NC. Wanting to create an opportunity to perform together, and realizing what a unique opportunity this could be, they decided that such an all~women r***e had perfect synergy with a fundraising event...for women. They unanimously agreed upon supporting The Rowan Family Crisis Center and its efforts to support women victims of violence. The Family Crisis Center is right here in Rowan County’s midst, is a non-profit organization that specializes in helping those affected by r**e, in**st, sexual assault, and domestic violence, and needs and appreciates support from the community...this community...YOUR community. CHICKWEED is an open-air evening of music, art, massage, and more to benefit the Rowan Family Crisis Council’s Women's Shelter.

Our community is reeling today with the loss of our amazing soul: Chelsea Rhae Childers. A founding member and annual performer at Chickweed - Celebrating Indestructible Women - this loss is too great for us to bear.

Our Story

CHICKWEED is a non-profit agency that raises funds and awareness for organizations that assist and support women victims of violence and their families through an annual event featuring women musicians and artists. In doing so, we help empower women, through the arts, against circumstances of violence, while we help build sustainable community leadership and educate people within our reach about the importance of the arts, and how women can be empowered through uplifting their voices in the artistic community. This in turn helps to build respect and healthy relationships – the relationships that all individuals, families, and communities need and deserve. What is CHICKWEED? CHICKWEED ~ Celebrating Indestructible Women ~ is the grass-roots brain-child of (7) local women who participated in the art/music/dance scene in Salisbury NC. Creating a unique all-women r***e while molding an opportunity to perform together, they realized what a unique opportunity this could be, and envisioned an all~women r***e that would have the perfect synergy to create an empowering, fundraising and awareness event...for women. They unanimously agreed upon supporting the local non-profit shelter for women victims of violence and their families, and in recent years supported the local child advocacy center. Through sending a message of empowerment through music and art, we hope we are helping those affected by r**e, in**st, sexual assault, and domestic violence, and needs and we appreciate support from the community...this community...OUR community...YOUR community.

CHICKWEED is an open-air evening of music, art, ther**eutic massage, and more - delivering the message of empowerment through the arts to women in all walks of life.
