Thanks to Peter Stauner/PlanX Solutions (pictured) for our last presentation. He talked about the benefits of routinely rebooting your computer. That is preferred over shutting down. Rebooting results in boosting performance, frees up memory, installs updates, and resolves glitches. He advised making rebooting a weekly event.

Thanks to Donna Moffett/Donna Moffett Accountants (pictured) for her presentation last week. She discussed Charitable Contribution changes resulting from the OBBB (One Big Beautiful Bill). As usual with the tax code, nuances exceed simplicity. The simplistic is the standard deduction increases to $16,100 (single files) and $32,200 (married filing jointly), with annual inflation adjustments to follow. Also, there is a 5% of your AGI floor for a deduction to be claimed as a deduction. Work with a financial advisor and tax advisor to find ways to continue your charitable giving and minimize your tax obligation.

Thanks to Art Rouse/Rouse Consulting Service LKN (pictured with Lydia) for his presentation last week. Art discussed their recent ba****ck sailing trip around the British Virgin Islands (BVI). It was a week aboard a 42’ sailing Cat with four couples. The foredeck team became proficient at snaring and securing the mooring ball each day. The crew went ashore for the Full Moon Party at Trellis Island dressed in embroidered trip T-Shirts courtesy of Barb Devine/LKN Embroidery. Other memorable sites were The Baths, Saba Rock, Bitter End, Scrub Island Resort, Foxy’s, and W***y T’s. Art even got into his Pirate's look. Capt Dr Mike/Carolina Grace was at the helm for the charter.

Thanks to our President Mike Elliott/Elliott Law Firm (pictured) for his presentation last week. Mike discussed the legal nuances, process, and fees of real property division when there are multiple owners. In his experience, it almost always results in the sale of the property.

Thanks to Scott Brady/Casco Signs (pictured) for his presentation last week. Casco Signs was founded 27 years ago in 1998. Based in Concord, it is family owned. Scott gave us a virtual tour of their warehouse showing just how much material is kept in stock, and the fabricating equipment needed to create the signs we see everyday (there are several well known clients in the region including Harris Teeter and Auto Bell). Scott works in sales and can tell tales regarding the permitting process.

Thanks to Pete Stauner/PlanX (pictured) for his presentation last week. Pete demonstrated a Phone Call Agent that he is creating for former LKNXB member Chris Woodhouse/Hands4Hire. This agent is designed to handle request for service calls when a live representative is not available. It was incredibly hard to distinguish from an actual human responding.

The formal meeting will begin at 6:30 pm in the Event Room, which is to the left of the entrance. Mike and Liz Marlow/AlphaGraphics LKN will be giving the 10min. Thanks to Vaughn Seegers/Davis Mechanical (pictured) for his presentation last week. Davis Mechanical recommends preventative maintenance on HVAC systems to improve system efficiency and to prevent catastrophic failures during peak operating times. Preventative maintenance on a regular basis saves you money by catching small issues before they become major expenses.

It was the last meeting of 2026 Q1. We had several with 100% attendance: Mike and Liz Marlow/AlphaGraphics LKN, Susan Gresham/KURV Payments, Vaughn Seegers/Davis Mechanical, Darrin Rankin/Rankin Insurance Group, and Art Rouse/Binswanger-RCServicesLKN. There were 28 recorded referrals with Capt Dr Mike/Carolina Grace sending the most (9) and Pete Stauner/PlanX receiving the most (7).

Thanks to Darrin Rankin/Rankin Insurance Group (pictured) for his presentation last week. Rankin Insurance Group, the newest LKNXB member, was formed 25 years ago. The company’s mission is "To Provide Our Clients with Excellent Service, Sound Advice and Comprehensive Coverage.” Darrin is licensed in multiple states and has multiple carrier partners. He is an instructor and has numerous certifications. He provides multiple lines of coverage for personal, commercial, and life insurance needs. Roughly two-thirds of his Book of Business is in personal lines.

Thanks to Susan Johnson/Johnson and Associates (pictured) for her presentation last week. Besides being an experienced residential realtor, Susan is also a Commissioner for the Town of Cornelius. She discussed the process for development approval in Cornelius. It begins with the Predevelopment Review Committee, where concepts are “run up the flagpole”. If the developer decides to proceed, there are community meetings, the proposal is vetted by Planning Staff (employees), the Planning Board, Architecture Review Board, Transportation Advisor Board (appointed residents), and then the final vote by the Town Board.
