URBANPROMISE CHARLOTTE TAKES A 20-YEAR LEADERSHIP JOURNEY WITH STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES IN CHARLOTTE, NC.

Our StreetLeaders, staff, and alumni shared an unforgettable few days together as we traveled to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park for our latest Capstone Trek!

With “Mountaintop Moments” as our guiding phrase, we spent the trip reflecting on the moments that challenge us, grow us, and remind us of the beauty around us. From exploring the coast of Maine to sharing meals and laughter together, this trek created space for connection, reflection, and so many new experiences.

Throughout the trip, students had the opportunity to tour Beal's Lobster Pier, head out on a lobster boat tour 🦞, and push beyond their comfort zones while rock climbing in Acadia 🧗‍♂️.

For several of our StreetLeaders, this trip was filled with major firsts — their first Trekkers trip, first plane ride, first boat ride, and first time rock climbing. Watching students embrace new experiences with courage and excitement was one of the most meaningful parts of the weekend.

More than the activities themselves, it was the community that made this trip so impactful: deep conversations, encouragement, shared laughter, and moments that reminded us how important it is to slow down and be fully present with one another.

We are so grateful for our staff team, community partners, and the generosity of The Gambrell Foundation for helping make opportunities like this possible. These experiences continue to expand our students’ sense of what’s possible while building confidence, connection, and lasting memories.

Karia started at UrbanPromise as a StreetLeader. She came back as an intern, then a literacy teacher, and today she teaches Choir at an UP partner school — where she sees the siblings of campers she once led.

Jennifer started at UrbanPromise as a camper. She left as a college student — on a full scholarship — with a career path she found right here.

Through StreetLeader mentorship, networking events, and the chance to lead art classes, Jennifer discovered her calling: art therapy. "If I wouldn't have been able to network with the art therapist they [UrbanPromise} connected me with, I wouldn't have known what I wanted to do."

Strength to Love 2026 did not disappoint! 🎉

Our students stepped up as Secret Agents of Restoration, delivering speeches on everything from protecting the environment to the power of faith, forgiveness, and community.

Friends — today marks an exciting milestone for UrbanPromise Charlotte. 🎉

After a year of quiet momentum, our Rooted for Restoration campaign is officially going public — and we want you to be part of it.

Here's where we stand: $5.49 million raised toward our $6.2 million goal. Thanks to the generosity of early donors, this campaign has already changed what's possible for our students and community. But we need your help to cross the finish line.

In the past year, Rooted for Restoration has made possible:
🎓 A third full-time Alumni Director providing one-on-one coaching — 94% of supported alumni are graduating or remaining enrolled in post-secondary education
🏘️ Expanded teams at all four UrbanPromise neighborhood locations
💚 Our first in-house counselor and social worker — meeting real, growing mental health needs among our StreetLeaders

Are you looking for an amazing summer opportunity that allows you to make an impact in communities across the city of Charlotte?

UrbanPromise Charlotte invites current college students to apply for the Summer Intern position. Summer Interns will serve as leaders, mentors, and “teacher coaches” for a small group of teenage StreetLeaders who serve as the mentors, teachers, and role models for the younger students attending UrbanPromise’s Summer Camp. Summer Interns will help their group of StreetLeaders to lead campers to academic and personal growth during Summer Camp. Additionally, Summer Interns will help full-time UrbanPromise staff lead training and development sessions for StreetLeaders before and during camp.

Our StreetLeaders, staff, and alumni made so many great memories this past weekend as we traveled to San Diego for our latest Capstone Trek!

With “Sea the Good” as our guiding phrase, we were intentional about noticing God’s goodness in every part of the trip - the expected and the unexpected. We had the opportunity to kayak through the ocean waters 🛶, soak up the energy at Belmont Park 🎡, reflect together on the beach under the night sky 🌙, and spend the day exploring the San Diego Zoo 🐘! Each moment invited us to slow down, be present, and see beauty all around us.

More than the places we visited, it was the shared moments that made this trip meaningful: honest conversations, laughter that carried us through long days, and space to reflect on how God is at work in our lives and in our community.

We are so grateful for our staff team, community partners, and the generosity of The Gambrell Foundation () for making experiences like this possible. These treks continue to be life-giving spaces for our students to grow, connect, and dream.
