The Genesis of Trail Life Troop NC-0412 - Charlotte, NC
In 2016, a leader from another nearby troop that was seeing extremely huge growth in their troop approached Ps. Bruce Brown of Prosperity Presbyterian Church to inquire about the launch of a new Trail Life Troop in this church; due to at one time the church hosting an old BSA (Scouts) troop. However, the timing was off, and we needed to wait some before figuring out how a Trail Life Troop could fit into the tapestry of Prosperity Presbyterian Church.
Fast forward 3 years later, and the same leader from the same troop re-approached Ps. Brown, and this time, with a current new member of PPC being a part of the Trail Life Area Team, pursuit occurred to bring the idea to the session (deacons and elders of PPC) to discuss the launch of a new Trail Life troop at Prosperity.
Agreement was given by the session in late 2018, and in 2019, strides began taking place to charter and launch Troop NC-0412 in PPC. By the summer of 2019, many interest meetings took place, and at the end of August 2019, Troop NC-0412 officially launched with 45 Trailmen (boys) ranging in age from 5 to 16 years old combining folks from Troop NC-7777 in Cornelius, Troop NC-0413 in Matthews, and around 80% new folks to Trail Life in general.
Today, as of February 2020, we are still at 45 Trailmen (losing a couple, but gaining those numbers right back). We have one Adventurer (High School aged) Trailman pursuing his Freedom Award (highest achievement in the Trail Life program, that is about equivalent - but required more service hours - to the BSA Eagle Scout Award).
