Celebrating 25 years in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood this spring, The Evening Muse () has become one of the city’s most beloved live music venues and a cornerstone of the independent music community.

Since opening in 2001, the intimate venue has welcomed everyone from emerging local artists to internationally known acts. Known for its welcoming atmosphere, great sound, and deep commitment to original music, The Evening Muse continues to be one of Charlotte’s most beloved spaces for discovering live music.

Part of that longevity comes from the dedicated team that has helped shape the venue since the very beginning, including Joe Kuhlmann at the helm, Laurie Koster booking talent, Don Koster handling the books, and Chris Koster managing the bar.

Since 2021, Music Everywhere CLT has featured incredible local artists, bands, and collectives through our Artist of the Week series. Over 261 weeks, we’ve recognized more than 1,000 of Charlotte’s talented singers, songwriters, musicians, and performers. 🎶

We’re now shifting the spotlight to the venues that keep live music alive - the stages, rooms, and community spaces where artists connect with audiences night after night. 🎤 Stay tuned.

Special thanks to our longtime Artist of the Week sponsor, , for supporting local music and helping us spotlight Charlotte’s creative community over the years.

This week’s Artist of the Week is Lily of the Sea!

is the project of mixed media artist and musician Lily McMahan, based between Charlotte and New York City. Drawing from the rawness of ’90s grunge and the visual language of folk art and mythology, her work creates an immersive, layered world.

Through both sound and visuals, she explores themes of climate grief, femininity, and the connection between body and environment. Using natural dyes, secondhand textiles, and slow-making techniques, every element of the project is intentionally crafted, blurring the line between music and art.

This week’s Artist of the Week is falllift 🎶

is an indie-folk duo formed by singer-songwriters Micah Cottingham and William Steven Hall. Blending heartfelt lyrics with haunting harmonies, their music weaves together folk, emo, and indie rock influences into atmospheric, story-driven songs.

Born out of weekly writing sessions during the pandemic, the project quickly grew from a creative outlet into a full musical collaboration rooted in storytelling, introspection, and connection.

📣 Big News: The Stellar Awards Are Coming to Charlotte

Charlotte just landed a major moment on the national music stage. 🚀 Last week, city leaders announced at a press conference that the 41st annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards are coming to the Queen City August 12–15, with the televised awards show taking place at Spectrum Center and events happening across the city.

This is the biggest night in gospel music, and it’s happening here.

For local artists, this kind of moment matters. Industry decision-makers, media, and talent from across the country will be in town, putting a spotlight on Charlotte’s music scene. Expect opportunities for collaboration, networking, and visibility for artists looking to connect beyond the local market.

Charlotte keeps stacking wins on the path to becoming a true music city.

This week’s Artist of the Week is Messenger Down 🎶

is the musical project of Charlotte-based alternative-pop artist Garrett Foster. Blending raw instrumentation, soaring melodies, and electronic soundscapes, his music moves fluidly between synthpop, indie rock, alternative R&B, emo, and hip-hop.

The result is a diverse, genre-bending sound that’s both emotionally driven and sonically dynamic.
