Saturday was an afternoon we'll never forget. 💙

Our final concert of the season featured our annual Musician for a Lifetime Program, showcasing highly talented middle school musicians from South Central District Bandmasters Association All-District Band — and it was also the final concert with our beloved director, Drew Carter, the longest-serving director in Charlotte Concert Band history.

We were honored to present Drew with a custom engraved baton and a proclamation from the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners recognizing his fourteen years of service to our ensemble.

Thank you to everyone who came out to make the moment so special. Drew, we will miss you dearly. 🎶

This afternoon is our final concert of the season — and a very special one.

It’s also the last concert led by our conductor, Drew Carter.
Join us as we close the season with Let Freedom Ring: America at 250 and celebrate the music, memories, and leadership Drew has shared with us on the podium.

If you’ve been meaning to come all season, this is the one you don’t want to miss.

As we finish out our celebration of Drew Carter and his 14 years as Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Charlotte Concert Band, we reflect on moments that speak to his lasting impact on the ensemble.

As part of our 60th Anniversary season, the Charlotte Concert Band commissioned High Country, a new work by composer Julie Giroux, and performed it earlier this season under Drew’s direction. Commissioning this piece marked a meaningful milestone for the band — one we hope will live on through future performances by high school bands across the country.

As Drew prepares for his final performance with the Charlotte Concert Band this Saturday, May 9, we offer our sincere thanks for his leadership, musicianship, and dedication over the past 14 years.

We invite you to join us for the final concert of our 60th Anniversary season and help us celebrate Drew in his final performance with the band.

As we continue to celebrate the legacy of Drew Carter and his 14 years with the Charlotte Concert Band, one lasting initiative from his time with the ensemble is our Musician for a Lifetime program.

Created to support young musicians and encourage lifelong participation in music, the program invites outstanding middle school performers from North Carolina to rehearse and perform alongside the Charlotte Concert Band. In 2018, the ensemble was especially fortunate to share the stage with these students during a performance at the Knight Theater in Uptown Charlotte — a meaningful and memorable moment for everyone involved.
