Climate change isn’t just an environmental issue, it’s a public health issue.

New research funded by Duke University is examining how extreme heat and air pollution impact mental health, chronic illness, and emergency response systems across North Carolina.

As heat waves intensify and air quality challenges continue, these studies help highlight the real health risks communities face every day, especially those already disproportionately impacted by pollution and climate change.

At CleanAIRE NC, we believe every North Carolinian deserves clean air, healthier communities, and climate solutions grounded in science and equity.

Governor Josh Stein has officially proclaimed May 18–22 as North Carolina Heat Safety Week!

Extreme heat impacts our health, especially for outdoor workers, older adults, children, and communities already disproportionately affected by climate change and air pollution.

Whether you’re finding shade, staying hydrated, checking on neighbors, or taking breaks from the heat, small actions matter.

The air we breathe shapes our health every single day.

A new report from the American Lung Association gave the Triad a “D” grade for short-term particle pollution, a reminder that air quality remains a serious public health issue across North Carolina.

Poor air quality has been linked to asthma, heart disease, stroke, and other long-term health impacts, especially for children, older adults, and communities already facing environmental burdens.

At CleanAIRE NC, we believe everyone deserves access to clean air and healthier communities no matter their zip code.

💬 How has air quality impacted your community?

Air quality is worsening in several cities in North Carolina, according to a new report.

Health professionals from across North Carolina came together to discuss the many factors that impact asthma, including air quality, environmental exposures, and access to care.

Some communities have spent generations fighting to be heard in conversations about pollution, public health, and environmental justice.

Miya Yosh*tani has spent decades working alongside Asian immigrant communities to build power, advocate for cleaner neighborhoods, and ensure the people most impacted are part of shaping environmental solutions.

This AANHPI Heritage Month, we’re honoring leaders whose work reminds us that climate justice begins in the community.

As Charlotte grows, so do the conversations about our future.

Proposed data center developments are raising important questions about energy demand, environmental impacts, and sustainable growth in our communities.

Plan to be part of Tuesday’s Charlotte City Council meeting, 6:30 PM at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center (600 E. Fourth St.).

The City Council voted to hold a public hearing on May 26 to consider a potential data center moratorium.
