In this episode, we're speaking with Kiwanis Club of Lake Norman's President, Sam Tonner. Their mission is to develop resources that transform the goodwill and vision of Kiwanians into programs that serve the children of the world. Through the Kiwanis causes, members’ service makes a difference in each phase of a young person’s development. It’s a continuum of impact. That’s because the work Kiwanians do in each cause helps provide a head start on success in the next — ultimately creating leaders who then make the same impact on succeeding generations. P.O. Lake Norman Economic Development Corporation Announces Strategic Reevaluation

Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, NC (June 20, 2024) – The Lake Norman Economic Development Corporation (LNEDC) is embarking on a strategic reevaluation to ensure it remains a leading force in fostering economic growth for the Lake Norman region's dynamic landscape.

The Board of Directors has approved a temporary pause on some operations to facilitate this process. However,LNEDC remains committed to delivering its impactful summer PIVOT internship program, a valuable initiative funded by Mecklenburg County that connects high school students with internship opportunities. Jaime Lane will continue to oversee the successful program throughout the summer.

The LNEDC leadership team is undergoing a period of transition. We extend our sincere gratitude to Elizabeth Underwood for her outstanding contributions as Workforce Development Manager over the past three years. We wish her all the best in her new role as Director of Stanly County's EDC. We also acknowledge Ryan McDaniels’ dedication and leadership as LNEDC's Executive Director for the last eleven years. We appreciate his significant contributions and wish him the very best in his future endeavors.

The LNEDC Executive Committee will leverage this strategic pause to comprehensively reimagine the organization's direction and future programs. They will consider the evolving economic environment of the Lake Norman area and develop a plan to best serve the needs of the community. The Executive Committee will present their recommendations to the Board of Directors in the fall for a final decision.

In this episode, we speak with the Human Rights Campaign North Carolina Digital Engagement Chair, Sarah Castleman. Without comprehensive equal rights legislation at the federal level, LGBTQ+ people are subject to an inconsistent patchwork of legal protections in their states and local communities. This leaves millions of our most marginalized people at risk of potential discrimination at work and in their daily lives. Bumper sticker requests should be made at www.hrc.org/sticker.
