Many people mistakenly believe Dolly Parton's song '9 to 5' anthem was titled after the standard workday, but the song and film were actually inspired by the 9to5 social movement which emerged in Boston in the early 1970s.

The 9to5 organization was led by women workers who advocated for pay equality and rights in the workplace. It is one of the foundational protest movements of modern feminism and one of the most significant organic worker uprisings in American history.

When people retell Dolly's legacy, be sure to include her undying solidarity with working people who take a stand in the struggle for equality.

🌐 Up to 30 total are coming — South End, SouthPark, University City and the six "corridors of opportunity"

💰 The city is guaranteed at least $8,000 per kiosk per year in ad revenue under the 10-year deal

Council members say the kiosks will boost digital access in lower-income corridors. The West End got the first one.

🌹⚠️ 8 Years After Losing Her Son A Mother Has Now Lost Her Daughter ⚠️🌹

A Charlotte family is demanding answers after losing two siblings to gun violence eight years apart. Juordan Hill, 20, was killed on Pruitt Street in Charlotte in September 2018. His case remains unsolved. Now, nearly eight years later, his sister, Britany Hill, 34, has also been killed. Britany was shot on Air Park West Drive during a late-night car gathering on August 8, 2026. She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died. Police have not announced an arrest in either sibling’s case.

Britany was a mother of two who worked as a home senior-care aide. According to her stepmother, Britany had driven several young women to the gathering and, when trouble began, tried to make sure everyone who came with her was accounted for. Lajuana Hill, Juordan’s mother and Britany’s stepmother, said the second loss has left their family devastated and angry. She and the siblings’ aunt are pleading for anyone with information about either killing to come forward so their family can finally receive justice.
