Our Shelby Exchange Club awarded an ACE (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) award and scholarship check this evening to Pinnacle Classical Academy student Adorian Burrus. 🌟 PCA high school counselor Dr Caswell Martin introduced Burrus to the club.

Harriett Institute Co-Founder Elizabeth J Champion presented an outline and explanation of the institute's focus on the prevention of s*x trafficking and domestic violence. Club President-elect Chuck Mathewson presented her with a club donation check towards the Institute's ongoing work.

At our March club meeting we honored two ACE (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) students - Burns High School student Bobby "Joey" Kenney and Crest High School student Jasmine Johnson. The club awarded scholarship checks to both students.
Pastors Johnny Jr Norris and Tracy Norris of Royal Priesthood Biker Church were our program. RPBC does much good in our community from helping/caring the homeless community, conducting regular church services and assisting needy individuals seek help in the appropriate places. The club presented the church with a donation check and an appreciation certificate for its ongoing community work.

The Exchange Club of Shelby, NC at its February meeting honored two outstanding Cleveland County high schools students. Club member Brenda Costner presented each with the Exchange Club's ACE Award and a scholarship check -
Kings Mountain High student Sean McCurry and Shelby High School student Jamyri'ah Allen. McCurry was introduced by KM Principal Melissa Wilson and Allen was introduced by his SHS teacher Kaitlyn Acuff. Both students were accompanied by their parents.
The meeting's program was presented by the Association for the Welfare of Animals member Sherry Crowder. She gave an overview of her group's work and dedication to the spay/neutering and care of cats and dogs. An Exchange Club donation check was presented to her for her group.

The club's first meeting of 2026 - January 13th - had as its program Kings Mountain Crisis Ministries Executive Director Lisa Harrison. Harrison spoke of the ministries' mission and the opportunities that volunteers can contribute. Club member Dr Sean Hickman presented Harrison a club donation check.
Also, the club honored Cleveland County Early College student Taylor Whaley with the Exchange Club ACE (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) award. CCEC representative Molly Faucette introduced Whaley. Club member Brenda Costner presented a certificate and scholarship check to Whaley.
Exchange Club Divsion 6 Director Marie Watts and Exchange Club Volunteer Field Rep Paul Summerfield were special guests.

The Shelby Exchange Club recently donated an Exchange Club Freedom Shrine to the City of Kings Mountain Police Department. Club members this evening presented a special club plaque to the KM Police Chief Gerald Childress at the KM Police department.
Afterwards the club had a delicious Christmas meal at The Creekside Clock Restaurant. The club members brought food items to donate to the Kings Mountain Crisis Center in lieu of the usual member gift exchange. Club member Sean-Jennifer Hickman is a dedicated volunteer with that organization.

Our program this evening was a virtual presentation given by Michael A. Jenks CPO, Business Development Manager - Integrum for the Wounded Warrior Project. This presentation was arranged by club member Diane Austin. The club is making a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project.
The club also had as guests the family of past charter member J. Buford Ellis. A memorial plaque and Exchange candle was presented to his family. Buford was a valued and dedicated club member.

The Exchange Club of Shelby, NC gifted the latest recipient of the Cleveland County Habitat For Humanity home with a Lowe's Hardware gift card. Representing the club were Steve Costner and Brenda Costner.

The Shelby Exchange Club presented the Kings Mountain Police Department with an Exchange Club Freedom Shrine this evening. Accepting it was KM Police Chief Gerald Childress. Club member and a former police officer Travis Repman made the presentation.
