🚨SPECIAL ANNOUCEMENT!
Alumni Family and Friends,
Rev. John A. Burton, Jr., Youth Minister at First Baptist Church-West is expanding his career journey and will be leaving First Baptist.
Dr. Ricky A. Woods is the Senior Minister.
We will recognize Rev. Burton’s 13 years as Youth Minister and his accomplishments with a “Best Wishes Celebration” on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at our 10 a.m. worship service . The significance of this celebration is that Rev. Burton is a WCHS graduate, Class of 1993. If you attended the 2023 WCHS Triennial Reunion he brought forth the message during our Sunday service and it was a powerful word!
There will be a General Offering and a Love Offering for Rev. Burton. A reception will follow in the Family Life Center. The church is located at 1801 Oaklawn Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28216.
Thanks,
Deacon Brenda Mansel
First Baptist Church-West

JROTC has reached 51% of their goal! 3day left, please share and let's help get them to the finish line.
Charlotte, NC — 1/6/2026 — West Charlotte High School’s ROTC program hosted a live online fundraiser on Sunday, January 4, 2026 to support students’ upcoming educational and leadership trip to Orlando, Florida. While the fundraising goal of $5,000 was not fully reached during the live event, the outpouring of community support demonstrated the strong commitment to student leadership and development.
The fundraiser, hosted on the DubC Connect platform, featured heartfelt video messages from ROTC cadets sharing what the program has meant to them — from building discipline and confidence to preparing for future academic and career success. Community members, parents, alumni, and supporters tuned in and contributed toward travel and program expenses.
“Our ROTC students represent the very best of West Charlotte,” said MSG Nicole Pough “They are leaders, role models, and ambassadors for our school. We are incredibly grateful for every donation and every person who showed up to support them.”
Funds raised will go directly toward covering transportation, lodging, and program-related costs for the Orlando trip. Organizers are continuing to accept donations to help close the remaining gap and ensure that all participating students can attend regardless of financial circumstances.
Community members and alumni who were unable to attend the live fundraiser are encouraged to contribute online at https://www.dubcconnect.com/ and share.
“This effort is about more than a trip,” added Season Bennett of DubC Connect. “It’s about investing in leadership, opportunity, and the future of our students.”
