Beets so nice we harvest TWICE! ❤️

In North Carolina, we’re lucky to get beets twice a year—early summer (May/June) and again in the cooler months (Oct–Dec). That means more chances to enjoy classics like red beets, golden beets, and Chioggia beets with their signature candy-striped centers ✨ We grow ours right at Garinger and Lomax farms and of course can’t resist the Chioggias from every year!

Beyond the color, they’re packed with fiber, folate, potassium, and antioxidants—plus the greens are totally edible too.

Quick way to enjoy them:
🥗 Roast + toss with mixed greens, goat cheese, walnuts, and balsamic. Simple, seasonal, perfect.

Grateful for our NC farm partners growing these vibrant roots year-round(ish) and helping more fresh food make it to local tables. 🌱

Meet Michelle! Next up on !

🌱 What brought you to The Bulb?
“I was drawn to The Bulb because of my previous experience with the UNCC Charlotte Harvest Exchange and interest in food access initiatives. I was also connected to this program through the Levine Scholars Program.”

✨ What are you most excited about?
“Getting to know The Bulb team and learning about the organization through my project!”

🍅 Favorite fruit or veggie?
Michelle couldn’t pick just one (honestly, relatable): tomatoes, apples, and yu choy!

📊 What project are you working on?
Michelle will be working with our data team to explore community needs and trends through our 2026 survey data, paired with hands-on experience at our mobile markets.

😸 Fun fact:
One of Michelle’s cats is named Bongji, which means “bag” in Korean. And you’ll never guess what her favorite toy is... 👜

Welcome to the team, Michelle! 💚

We’re having a great start to over here...

Eddie sent us almost 100 pounds of fresh broccoli heads this week (!!), plus smaller florets and broccolini varieties rolling in right behind them. Oh, AND plenty of rainbow chard, too!🥬

And how could we forget the A-MAZING haul from Lomax Farm last week? Andrew and Criss harvested some STUNNING beets, carrots, zucchini, and cabbage. What a lineup. 🥕🥬✨

This is peak “good food doing good things” energy: supporting local agriculture, eating seasonally, and keeping fresh, beautiful produce flowing through our community. Huge love and gratitude for our farm team who makes it happen. 💚

🚨 New excuse to treat yourself just dropped 🚨

We’re the next Karma Cocktail partner at 🍹✨

That means your cocktail order can do a little extra good while you’re out enjoying a night in NoDa. 👀 For a limited time, a portion of proceeds from the featured Karma Cocktail will support The Bulb’s work rescuing food, reducing waste, and getting fresh produce into the hands of our neighbors.

So basically: sip delicious cocktail → support local nonprofit → feel like a community hero. 😌

We’re incredibly grateful to Haberdish for spotlighting organizations making a difference across the QC through their Karma Cocktail program 💚🥂

Let’s talk about radishes.

Crunchy. Peppery. Bright pink (or black, or purple, or green) for no apparent reason 🫜

They’re low in calories, a good source of vitamin C & an easy way to add a little crunch to your day.

Salads. Tacos. Grain bowls. Straight from the fridge. This tiny vegetable tends to spark some big opinions.

Keep your eyes open for these beauties at Bulb markets 👀✨

Last week, we had the incredible honor of attending the Catholic Charities Vineyard of Hope Gala and receiving the 2026 Fruit of the Vine Award 💚

We’re only six months into our partnership with , but together we’ve already hosted 13 markets, connected with nearly 500 households, welcomed families from 27 ZIP codes and shared almost 5 tons of fresh produce. WOOO!!! 🎉

But the best part isn’t the pounds or the numbers.

It’s the chance to make fresh food a little more accessible for families in East Charlotte. It’s seeing neighbors from all over the world come together each week and connect over something as simple as produce. It’s being part of a community effort that helps people feel welcomed and supported.

Week after week, the Catholic Charities team and their amazing volunteers show up with warmth, energy and a genuine commitment to their community. Together, we’ve expanded access to fresh food in East Charlotte while creating a space where people feel welcomed, connected and seen.

This award belongs to a whole lot of people: volunteers, staff, food donors, community partners and, most importantly, the neighbors who make these markets what they are.

Huge thanks to Catholic Charities for being such dedicated partners in the work. We’re grateful for all we’ve grown together so far and can’t wait to see what’s next.

This summer, The Bulb is welcoming not one, not two, but FIVE interns to the team over the course of the season!!! WOOHOO 💚

First up, meet Thalia, a studying Architecture at . We’re so excited to have her joining us this summer!

Thalia was drawn to The Bulb because the role connects directly to her studies & resonates with her personal experience growing up in Cuba, where she saw firsthand the importance of community food access. She’s especially excited to deepen her understanding of Charlotte’s food deserts and contribute to building a more sustainable local food system.

This summer, Thalia will be taking on a business improvement project focused on reimagining our sorting space—using her architecture lens to assess and redesign our layout and equipment to improve flow, efficiency, and impact. In her words, she’s excited to leave behind “a tangible contribution to the organization,” and we can’t wait to see it come to life.

Welcome to The Bulb, Thalia! 🌱
