Cody’s Crew Annual Bags of Hope Fundraiser
Our goal is to provide 100 Bags of Hope to individuals experiencing homelessness, and we need your help to reach it.
This mission is very personal to me—Cody faced homelessness twice during his struggle with substance use disorder. Being able to support others going through similar hardships means more than words can express.
We couldn’t do this without your help. Please use our Amazon Wish List below or donate cash through Zelle or Venmo to our nonprofit Cody’s Crew. Any amount will help and be appreciated. Thank you for your continued support and dedication.
With gratitude,
Lori Hawes

Just stopped by the Mecklenburg County Health Department and picked up 100 doses of lifesaving naloxone. Cody’s Crew will include two doses of Narcan in each of our Bags of Hope, which will be distributed to individuals experiencing homelessness. 🎒🏥

You can help support this effort by donating items from our Amazon Wish List. Thank you for making a difference!

Help Us Spread Hope in Cody’s Honor 💜

Cody’s Crew is preparing for our annual Bags of Hope fundraiser—an event that means more than words can express.

In honor of my son, Cody, who lost his life after a 14-year battle with substance use disorder, we carry on a tradition that turns heartbreak into hope. During his struggle, Cody experienced homelessness—something no family ever imagines, yet so many endure.

Each May, on the anniversary of his passing (05/02/21), we travel to Asheville—a place Cody loved—to visit his gravesite and personally hand out Bags of Hope to those experiencing homelessness. We also dispute bags in Charlotte, too.

Last year, we distributed 80 backpacks filled with essential items, protein snacks, and handwritten notes of encouragement. This year, our goal is 100 bags—but we can’t do it without you.

These bags are more than supplies…
They are hope, dignity, and a reminder that someone cares.
They are received with smiles, gratitude, and often, heartfelt conversations.

💜 How You Can Help:
• Donate items through our Amazon Wish List https://bit.ly/47xvJkJ
• Send Cody’s Crew an Amazon gift card
• Give through Zelle: [email protected] or Venmo:
Every dollar and every item goes directly into these bags. Any remaining needs will be purchased at the end of the drive using the Amazon gift cards or cash donations we receive.

This mission is deeply personal. It’s how I honor Cody. It’s how I keep his kindness alive. And I truly believe… he would be proud.

If you feel moved to help, please join us.
Together, we can bring light, love, and hope to those who need it most.

💜 Thank you for being part of Cody’s Crew 💜

✨ Cody’s Crew is Growing! ✨
We love lifting the residents’ spirits during the holidays, and these special projects truly make a difference — but we cannot do it without the support of others. We are serving more recovery centers this fall & holiday season — and we need your help!
🎃 While you are out picking up pumpkins for your own family, would you consider grabbing a few extra mini pumpkins to donate for our Pumpkin Painting Project?
📚🎄 Share new (Amazon link below) or gently used children’s books for our Christmas Read Aloud Project.
Together, we can bring joy & hope to families in recovery. Thank you! ➡️ http://bit.ly/48k72t5

Shoutout to Grace Cruz, Melissa Schaening, Molly Bates, Sandy Ubriaco, Kathleen Cooke, Sheryl and Todd Jaskolski, Darlene Pruitt, Kassandra Freifeld, Deana McCraw, Jean and Joe Ambrosio, and Theresa Ronayne for your generous donations! Your support will help us purchase pumpkins for residents to paint at our upcoming seasonal event. Thank you for making a difference—your kindness truly brightens lives.

Cody’s Crew was honored to attend Union Academy’s Community Service Fair! We shared Cody’s story and our mission with over 600 students and were inspired by their strong commitment to giving back. We hope many will join us in supporting those in recovery from substance use disorder. 💜

Overdose does not always mean death. Cody overdosed at least 8 times during his long battle with addiction, but the overdose that killed him was different—it was laced with fentanyl.

Fentanyl is deadly, often hidden in drugs without people knowing. Cody’s life mattered, and sharing his story is my way of helping others.

Please talk about fentanyl. Carry naloxone. Awareness saves lives.
