Why are a group of reading Genesis in 2026? Because Scripture isn’t just information. It’s an invitation.

An invitation to know God, understand who He is, discover who we are in relationship with Him, and through application, experience transformation.

This summer, we’re reading the Bible through a simple framework:

✨ Created by the Father
✨ Redeemed by the Son
✨ Empowered through the Spirit
✨ To shine as beacons of His light

We just wrapped up the first section, focused on Genesis.

Written thousands of years ago, it’s filled with timeless — and timely — truths relevant to life today.

One story that stood out was Joseph and his brothers, which illustrated a lesson that's woven into the fabric of Shine Teens: "Compare and despair.”

In Joseph's family, comparison fueled jealousy, fractured relationships, and highlighted the destructive power of pride and insecurity — two sides of the same ego coin.

That same week, we watched a swim meet. When swimmers stayed focused on their lane, they swam confidently. When they started looking around at everyone else, they lost their rhythm.

Different circumstances. Same lesson.

Comparison pulls our eyes sideways — to what God seems to be doing in someone else’s life. Faith lifts them vertically — to what He's doing in our own.

But Joseph’s story isn’t ultimately about comparison. It’s about redemption. It’s about a sovereign God who was working behind the scenes the whole time.

“What you intended for evil, God intended for good.” — Genesis 50:20

The same sovereign, powerful, redemptive God we encounter in Genesis is the same God at work today.

Different century.
Different circumstances.
Same God.

And THAT is the point of our Bible study ✨

Four years ago, there were four girls.
This year.. let's just say we needed more chairs.

Girls who were opening a Bible for the very first time in a room with girls whose hearts are on fire for Jesus. All in one room, learning, laughing, and encouraging each other in their faithful pursuit of the Lord.

As we wrapped up Genesis, we were reminded that we serve a mighty, sovereign, fiercely protective, and loving God. A God who keeps His promises. A God of redemption and restoration. A God who works ALL things for the good of those who love Him and who are called according to His purpose.

And we witnessed our motto "shine bright, spread light" in action — as one of our teen leaders shared her testimony, and it led to a ripple effect of girls opening up, sharing, and encouraging each other ✨

We launched our summer Bible studies this week with Bible Brushstrokes. ✨

The Bible can feel intimidating for a lot of teens (and adults too!). Yet God’s holiness isn’t a reason to stay away — it’s an invitation to draw near, with reverence and awe. His Word was never meant to sit on a shelf collecting dust.

Scripture is living. It’s active. Breathed out by God. His word doesn't just inform us, it transforms us 🤍

At first, some girls seemed tentative. Nervous to pick a verse. Nervous to make a mistake. Nervous to mark up the pages of a Bible.

But then, something beautiful happened.

Pages started turning. Pens started moving. Conversations started flowing. Girls lingered over verses that resonated with them and shared why.

The messages we’ve received since then? Music to our ears. Girls sharing that they feel more comfortable opening their Bibles. More confident navigating Scripture. More excited to spend time with God.

It’s all about connection, not perfection. ✨

A well-used Bible is evidence of a well-fed soul. 💫

Sienna’s introduction into Shine Teens was divinely orchestrated. This beautiful soul is salt of the earth and God has used her to transform the metaphorical flavor of our Shine Teens community🧂✨

During a time when it's common to try and fit in, Sienna embraces being set apart. Her presence is magnetic, she exudes and heavenly wisdom and pure joy, and she has inspired so many within the Shine Teens community, in different seasons of life 💖

As she heads to NC State, we know she will continue to be a beacon of God’s light — transforming every space she navigates 💫

With a bright, analytical mind and a heart that loves pouring into others — welcoming, guiding, and encouraging — she shines with the Giver's Glow.

What started as an dream to pour into Shine Teens and their moms rippled into a more than we could have ever hoped or imagined ✨

Entrepreneurial souls who contributed as sponsors and vendors. Co-laborers in love with faithful, servant hearts. Women in different seasons and from different walks of life — and a few men providentially woven into the tapestry of our mission.

One of the sweetest unexpected moments? Future Shine Teens 🤍

Our children, who we expected to play in a nearby playground were drawn in by the praise, the joy, the presence of the Holy Spirit. Our souls intuitively know what they were created for ✨

This mission is quickly becoming a movement, and watching people rally around it has been one of the greatest gifts.

Thank you to everyone who gave their time, gifts, prayers, encouragement, and energy to make this night possible 💖

Getting to reflect on them afterward ✨

The moments become memories — etched a little more deeply into our hearts each time we revisit them 🤍

We try our best to capture moments during Shine events. But every so often, we leave it to professionals to stay fully present — Behind the Shine was one of those times 💫

And wow… are we grateful we did.

It was so special to witness Shine Teens and their moms grow closer to each other and to the One who knit them together.

To the team at thank you for preserving this beautiful chapter of the Shine Teens story for years to come — and for the reminder that when we plug into the source of light, we shine with a grounded glow 🔌✨
