Shelters across the country are full right now, and it’s the big dogs, especially pit bull type dogs, who are waiting the longest for a home. 💚

This Saturday, two of our partner shelters are doing something about it for Clear the Shelters.

🐾 / — 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
🐾 — 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Both locations are offering fee-waived adoptions, and GCACE is adding local vendors, food trucks, and basket raffles to the day.

Can’t adopt this weekend? You can still help. Share this post, donate directly to either shelter, ask about fostering, or just show up to cheer the pups on.

Every dog that finds a home this Saturday is one more shelter kennel that opens up for the next dog who needs it.

Meet MJ 💚 She’s 11 months old, spayed, current on vaccines, dog-friendly, and sweet. 🥰 Her previous owner was deported, and her temporary foster (who’s expecting) needs help finding her a permanent home. She’d make a wonderful hiking buddy too!

Meet Matty — professional doughnut impersonator, part-time adventure buddy, full-time good boy. This 2-year-old pittie is just as happy curled up for a nap as he is out on a trail or road trip. He’s great with big dogs and does well with older kids — just looking for his person to adventure with.

Please take a moment with us to honor Tatie. A watermelon-loving fan of Halloween costumes and, of course, mulch - because what pittie isn't?

Tatie was adopted from animal control in NYC and went on to live an incredible life full of adventure, loyalty, and love. He was an amazing ambassador for his breed both on the streets of Brooklyn and throughout his many travels across the country, and he and his mom were a dynamic duo. His human mom designs apparel and merch to support local shelters in Durham and, formerly, in Brooklyn.

Losing a loved one is never easy, and our canine family members can leave a rather large hole for the short time we get to call them ours. Our hearts are with Tatie's family and friends and anyone navigating the path to healing after heartbreak.

Tatie's friend Eli made a gift to us in his memory to support our mission, and we are honored to be tasked with keeping his memory alive through our work.
