The stigma says they’re dangerous. The truth is — they’re healers.

At APBF, we see it firsthand through Operation Sidekick (), our program pairing rescued pit bull-type dogs with veterans living with PTSD. These dogs aren’t just companions. They’re lifelines.

On National Therapy Animal Day, we’re celebrating every pittie out there proving the world wrong — one veteran, one family, one heart at a time.

💚 Meet Russell.

Named after the little boy in Up – and just like his namesake, he’s loyal, sweet, and ready to find his people.

Russell was found wandering as an intact stray on May 14th. No owner ever came forward, and it became clear he’d been dumped. Vaccinated, neutered, and heartworm-negative, he’s ready for his next chapter.

He’s around 3 years old, 70 lbs, and one of the most easygoing dogs you'll meet. He lives happily with two large dogs and is fine around cats. He doesn’t bark at strangers, other dogs, or the doorbell. Storms don’t faze him. He’s equally happy wrestling in the yard or melting into the couch next to you.

He needs a home that can give him the stability and love he deserves. If that’s you, please DM us or email [email protected].

Still searching for his forever home: meet Matty. 💚

June is National Foster a Pet Month, and Matty is the perfect reminder of why fosters matter. His foster has been keeping him active, and that’s exactly where this boy thrives.

Matty is a two-year-old pittie with a heart of gold who loves hiking and playing outside almost as much as he loves his toys (and he really loves his toys). When he’s not exploring, he’s a self-appointed snuggle king who has never met a stranger.

He's looking for an active family ready to hit the trails, invest in his training, and give him the stimulation he needs to thrive.
