A central defect where the heart's valves and septum don't form separately. Strongly associated with Down syndrome.

A fetal blood vessel connecting the aorta and pulmonary artery that fails to close after birth. Can strain a newborn's heart and lungs.

The most common congenital heart defect: a hole between the heart's two lower chambers. Often first found via a heart murmur.

A small opening between the heart's two upper chambers, allowing blood to leak between them. Often silent for decades.
