Some of the most meaningful professional connections aren’t made in an office. They’re made around a dinner table.

Tonight, GardHouse partnered with Social Venture Partners Charlotte ( SVP Charlotte | Nonprofit + Philanthropy )for a special edition of our signature SoCap Soirée, taking our college students beyond the traditional networking environment and into a home. The goal was simple: help students develop the confidence to navigate social gatherings, engage in meaningful conversations and build relationships in spaces where opportunities often begin.

For many students, access to these environments isn’t always a given. Yet, knowing how to introduce yourself, join a conversation and build genuine connections can be just as valuable as preparing for an interview. That’s why GardHouse is intentional about helping students develop the social capital that can open doors throughout their careers.

A heartfelt thank you to Christi Farr and Will Farr for graciously opening their beautiful home and creating such a welcoming environment for our students. We’re equally grateful to Kristin Winkle Beck, CPLC and Brandi Cagle for helping us bring this experience to life.

Because preparing students for success means more than helping them get a seat at the table. It means making sure they feel confident once they’re there.

We have the students. We need the opportunities. And right now, IT and Finance are at the top of our list.

As GardHouse prepares for Spring 2027, we have only EIGHT employer partnership opportunities remaining, and we’re prioritizing Information Technology and Finance projects.

We’re especially interested in connecting with emerging employers, small businesses, and growing organizations that could use support with projects involving:

IT: Cybersecurity, data analytics, software development, IT support, database management, and technology improvements.

Finance: Accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, financial analysis, bookkeeping, and financial operations.

Through GardHouse, students complete 10-week paid internships, contributing up to 15 hours per week and helping employers move important projects forward.

We’re filling our final eight partnership opportunities with employers who see the value in developing talent while getting meaningful work done.
Employer applications close October 30, 2026.

Submit your project using the link in our bio.

If you lead an IT or Finance team, own a growing business, or know someone who does, please share this post, tag a decision-maker, or make an introduction. Eight opportunities could make a meaningful difference for eight college students.

What if opening your office doors for two hours could open a door for a college student?

That’s the idea behind GardHouse’s SoCap Soirée, our signature networking experience that helps college students build professional relationships, confidence, and social capital.

When Wells Fargo welcomed our Fall 2024 cohort, students stepped into a professional workplace, connected with employees, and practiced networking in a space they may not otherwise have had access to.

Now, we’re looking for more Charlotte employers to open their doors.

Hosting a SoCap Soirée is a two-hour commitment. Your company provides the space and 10–15 employees ready to connect. GardHouse brings the students and facilitates the experience.

Our preferred spring dates are Feb. 4, Feb. 18, or March 4.

Sometimes building a student’s network starts with an invitation into the room.

Will your company open its doors to GardHouse this spring?

The sweatshirt gets your attention. Kamar Goudelock’s story is why it exists. Kamar is a Business Administration student at Livingstone College. He’s made the Dean’s List and Honor Roll, earned multiple scholarships, and taken on leadership roles across campus.

But a strong résumé still needs opportunity.

Through GardHouse, Kamar is working with Springclean working on something the organization has never done before: its first public impact report.

He is digging into organizational data. Researching nonprofit and circular-economy reporting. Working with the Springclean team to identify financial and sustainability metrics. Helping turn that work into a tool the organization could use with board members, funders, and other stakeholders.

That’s a champion.

Our National Champions sweatshirt helps us keep opening those doors.
When you purchase one, you’re not just repping GardHouse. You’re helping us create more opportunities for students like Kamar to gain experience, build confidence, and leave college with more than a degree.

What could a college student help your organization accomplish in 10 weeks? 👀

For Care Ring , the answer was a project their team could actually use.

During his GardHouse internship, Ayemhenre helped develop Care Ring’s SharePoint intranet, organize departmental content, and create procedures to help employees navigate the new system.

And he delivered.

💬 “His work met, and in several areas exceeded, the expected scope and quality.” — Care Ring

This is what a project-based internship can look like.

Now, 49 students have applied for Spring 2027 GardHouse internships, and we need more organizations ready to give them the opportunity to contribute.

📅 Jan. 25 – April 2, 2027
⏰ Up to 15 hours per week
💼 One meaningful project. Real experience. Real impact.

Have a project your team keeps pushing down the priority list? A GardHouse intern could help move it forward.

From GardHouse alumna to Career Success Coach. 💛

Meet Shakoya Brown, a Johnson C. Smith University ( Johnson C. Smith University ) graduate returning to GardHouse to help the next generation of interns succeed.

Each week, Shakoya meets one-on-one with GardHouse interns to help them set professional goals, prepare for interviews, strengthen their resumes, navigate the workplace, and think about what comes next.

And she brings plenty of experience to the conversation. Today, Shakoya is an Instructor of Rhetoric and Communication at JCSU, helping students strengthen their communication, writing, research, and public speaking skills.

For us, this is what community looks like.

A student becomes an alumna.
An alumna builds her career.
Then she comes back to help another student build theirs. 💫

We’re proud to have Shakoya back in the GardHouse community, this time helping our interns make the most of every opportunity in front of them.

FROM THE CLASSROOM TO THE BALANCE SHEET. 📊

Meet Ahmar Van Eaton, a University of North Carolina at Charlotte student majoring in Finance with a minor in Economics.

Ahmar isn’t waiting until graduation to begin building his career. As an Accounting/Finance Intern with Building Hope Building Commitment, INC, he’ll be gaining hands-on experience with the financial work that keeps an organization moving—from tracking revenue and expenses to supporting financial reports, reviewing documentation, assisting with invoices, and analyzing data for opportunities to save costs and grow revenue.

For Ahmar, it’s an opportunity to take the concepts he’s learning in the classroom and see how they shape real financial decisions in a real organization. And that’s the experience GardHouse works to create: connecting students with paid internships where they can learn by doing, contribute meaningful work, and build experience before graduation.

This is what career preparation looks like in action.

When emerging talent gets the opportunity to contribute, everyone benefits. 🌱

During his internship with Money Magnets Club , GardHouse intern Kevin Suarez supported operations, programming and financial literacy work while gaining experience across different areas of the organization.

💬 “Kevin did everything that was asked of him and sought opportunities to be helpful/supportive beyond what was asked as well.”
— Alexandra Arrington, Executive Director, Money Magnets Club
