are at risk at developing negative effects from exposure to through their professions. Once we recognize that the profession is weighing on us and we start the journey to overall health, we can get frustrated with not achieving success overnight or that there is no ‘magic pill’ to cure us.

There is no timestamp on trauma.
There isn’t a formula that you can insert yourself into to get from horror to healed. Be patient.

often get injured while on the job. Not only physical injuries, but also emotional and psychological injuries. Most of us would address any physical injury, however there are those among us in that may ignore or simply refuse to acknowledge or address any psychological injury. There’s no shortcuts to full mind and body health, you simply just have to begin the journey.

Trauma is not something we should quantify.
Someone else’s trauma isn’t “worse” just because it may be deemed as worse experience. Trauma is a uniquely individual experience. What’s hard for someone else may not be as hard for you and vice-versa. Many factors are in play here- our flight or fight response, our resiliency and our self-awareness, our support system, our knowledge of how we respond in situations leading to proactive approaches, our coping skills, other traumatic events we’ve experienced, etc. I’ve seen this quote before, “their success does not diminish mine”. Replace “success” with “trauma” and read it again. We are all entitled to our own unique experiences in life and the traumas that we inevitably experience as first responders. You don’t have to experience a “certain” or “specific” type of trauma to be able to claim it as so or seek help.

I am strong... but I am tired !
Tired of all the death I see. Tired of the nightmares. Tired of always not only looking but finding that everyone in society are as****es and are dangerous. Tired of having to take different roads to work to avoid triggering painful memories. Tired of isolating myself from everyone.
