Dear Charlotte Eagle Family,

On behalf of the North Carolina Central University Charlotte Alumni Association, it is my honor and privilege to welcome you!
Whether you are new to the Queen City, a recent graduate, or a longtime supporter of our great institution, we are thrilled to have you as part of this vibrant, passionate, and proud community of Eagles. The Charlotte Chapter stands as one of the largest and most active alumni chapters in the nation, and together, we continue to carry forward the legacy of Truth and Service that defines our alma mater.

Here in Charlotte, our mission is simple: to keep the Eagle spirit alive through connection, community, and commitment. We offer opportunities for professional networking, leadership development, social engagement, and meaningful community service. Most importantly, we support the next generation of Eagles through scholarships and mentorship — because we know that when one of us soars, we all rise.

But to continue this important work, we need your support.
If you haven’t already, I encourage you to become a financial member of the Charlotte Chapter today. Your membership helps fund our scholarships, programs, and events, and it ensures that we can continue representing NCCU with excellence here in the Charlotte region. Membership is easy — just visit www.nccucharlotte.org to sign up, get involved, and stay connected.

There’s a place for everyone in this chapter — and your time, your talent, and your energy are welcomed and valued. Together, we are stronger, louder, and prouder. Together, we amplify Eagle Pride.

Thank you for being part of this journey. I look forward to connecting with you and working side by side to elevate our community and our legacy.

In Truth and Service, Jason Caldwell, Chapter President, North Carolina Central University Charlotte Alumni Association

🦅 The NCCU Charlotte Alumni chapter celebrates NCCU Alumni who have made history or significant impact on our university, their community or the nation. Today, we salute Alumnus Keith Haywood ‘77.

Keith Haywood is president and owner of FDY, Inc., a Charlotte-based food service
management company with 40 years of experience in university dining, catering, retail
franchising, and airport concessions. Haywood’s exceptional business acumen and successful
joint ventures have garnered him recognition as one of the nation’s leading minority food service
management and restaurant franchise owners.
Under his leadership, FDY, Inc. has managed full food service ventures at 13 universities
and five corporations, three airports, and one major train station (Union Station, Washington,
DC). FDY, Inc. is a franchisee of national brands to include Charlotte’s favorite, Bojangles
Famous Chicken & Biscuits, and owns and operates two Bojangles locations in the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, having been a valued tenant for 15 years. FDY, Inc. also operates other national and proprietary brands in the Raleigh-Durham International Airport and Norfolk International Airport.

Alumnus Haywood is actively involved in North Carolina’s hospitality and tourism community.
He is the former Chairman of the Charlotte Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (now CRVA) and currently serves as an Advisory Board Member for the Greater Charlotte Hospitality & Tourism Alliance. He is a proud graduate of NCCU’s School of Business and serves as the Chairman of the NCCU Hospitality and Tourism Administration Department’s Advisory Board. In the fall of 2024, Alumnus Haywood and his wife, Alumna Marilyn Sutton-Haywood generously donated $200,000 to support the School of Business and Hospitality program. In recognition, the business school’s dining room will bear their name.

An avid tennis enthusiast, Haywood was a member of the NCCU 1975 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) tennis championship team. He currently serves as a Board Member for Carolina Serves, Inc., a 501(c)(3) dedicated to broadening public access to a world-class tennis and racquet sport experience in Charlotte, NC.

The NCCU Charlotte Alumni chapter salutes Alumnus Keith Haywood, ‘77 for blazing trails and inspiring us all as true Black History Maker. 🦅
