As National Nurses Week comes to a close, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to the nurses who walk alongside families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Labor & Delivery and NICU nurses provide extraordinary compassion, dignity, and care — not only during joyful moments, but also during heartbreaking ones.

This year, one of our key initiatives is supporting Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center Labor & Delivery team as they work to strengthen and revamp their bereavement support program. Together, we are helping enhance bereavement supplies, memory-making resources, family spaces, staff support tools, and training opportunities designed to better serve grieving families with compassion and dignity. Consider donating to their "wishlist" before the end of May to contribute: https://isht.ink/nhpmcwishes

We are also excited to share that later this year, Gemma’s Hope will be helping provide free remembrance photography training opportunities for Novant Presbyterian and other area hospitals. These trainings are intended to equip healthcare teams with practical, sensitive skills to help families preserve meaningful memories of their babies during moments that cannot be recreated. More information to come on this photography training!

To every nurse who has ever wrapped a baby carefully, spoken gently to grieving parents, captured footprints, taken photographs, or simply sat quietly beside a hurting family: thank you. Your compassion leaves a lasting impact that families carry with them forever.

Thinking of all the mothers today that are celebrating their motherhood without their child. Remember, you are not alone.

Do you have a special tradition on Mother's Day to honor your baby who has passed? Share in the comments, maybe it will support and inspire someone going through this holiday for the first time after loss.

Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are often filled with cards, flowers, and family brunches—but for many, these days are not only joyful, but deeply tender. For bereaved parents, navig

National Nurses Week 🤍
We're celebrating the nurses who show up for families on some of their hardest days—with compassion, strength, and care that goes far beyond medicine.
To say thank you, we’re launching something new:

Notes of Encouragement 💌
These handwritten messages will be included in our programs as a small reminder to nurses that their work matters—and that it’s seen. Because even those who care for others deserve to be cared for, too.

Hospital staff can order free cards for their unit here: https://store.gemmas-hope.com/product/freecards

Want to be part of it? We need your help with writing more Notes of Encouragement! Visit gemmas-hope.com/volunteer for more info & start writing today.

Some days are too heavy to capture in a single post.

Sunday was Bereaved Mother’s Day—a day that holds so much love, grief, and everything in between. And while we didn’t show up here Sunday, that doesn’t mean we weren’t thinking of you.

Truthfully, honoring bereaved mothers isn’t something that fits neatly into one day on the calendar.

It’s in the quiet moments.
It’s in the memories that surface unexpectedly.
It’s in the love that never had a chance to grow in the way it should have—but still exists, deeply and forever.

So today, we’re showing up intentionally.

To the mothers who carry loss alongside love—
we see you.
we remember with you.
we honor you.

Not just last weekend, but today and every day. 🕊️

We’ve made a thoughtful update to how Gemma’s Hope serves families 🤍

The heart of what we do hasn’t changed—families will continue to receive the same meaningful keepsakes and support.

What has changed is how those resources are delivered, allowing us to reach more families, offer greater flexibility, and better support our hospital partners.

This shift allows us to grow in a way that’s intentional, sustainable, and centered on the families we serve.

We designed these cards to help grieving families communicate their needs during medical, dental, or other appointments—without having to explain their loss out loud. After a loss, routine appointments can be unexpectedly difficult for grieving families—these cards help ease that burden.

HOW FAMILIES CAN USE THESE CARDS:
Write your baby’s name on the card, if desired
Check the boxes that feel right for you
Bring the card to appointments and share it with front-desk staff or your provider
You may print as many copies as you’d like

As tax season approaches, this can be an especially difficult time to navigate financial details after the loss of a baby. This is especially sad for families who experienced a miscarriage or stillbirth - without a birth certificate, they can't get valuable tax credits that can help offset their medical bills. Many families aren’t given clear guidance on what to do. This resource is here to gently walk you through what may apply to your situation, so you can feel a little more prepared and supported during this season. This resource is primarily for families who experienced a live birth, but there are some helpful tips as well for miscarriage or stillbirth situations.
