BIG SHOTS is a yearly FREE back-to-school vaccination and health assessment event for children in Mecklenburg County. Hosted by the Mecklenburg County Public Health Department and in collaboration with volunteers from the health systems and community partners, this event provides needed services to children and families, including connection to medical homes in addition to the onsite clinical services. This year we are offering 3 dates to assist families in being compliant with vaccine requirements and health assessments – 2 before the CMS exclusion date and 1 afterward. In-person Spanish interpreters and VIRs will be onsite.

The Smith Arthritis Fund is now accepting grant proposals! We’re looking to connect with researchers, physicians, nonprofits, and community organizations doing meaningful work related to arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions. World Family Doctor Day (WFDD), observed on May 19, is a significant occasion that highlights the vital role and contributions of family doctors and primary care teams in healthcare systems worldwide. Since its declaration by WONCA in 2010, WFDD has become an annual celebration recognizing the central role of family doctors in delivering personal, comprehensive, and continuous health care to patients.
This year’s theme, “Compassionate Care in a Digital World,” emphasizes the importance of balancing technological innovation with human connection in medicine. MCMS applauds family doctors for demonstrating that compassionate care can flourish in a digital world and for working together to ensure that every digital innovation strengthens rather than weakens the relationships at the heart of primary care.
