THE 6 FASTEST DOGS ON EARTH: SPEED HAS NO SIZE

Top speed isn't just about legs—it's explosive acceleration, aerodynamic body design, and pure instinct.

1. Greyhound — Up to 72 km/h
The King of Speed. Built like a missile with a flexible spine and massive stride length.

2. Saluki — Up to 68 km/h
The Desert Runner. Elegant design where high speed meets incredible long-distance endurance.

3. Afghan Hound — Up to 64 km/h
The Rugged Athlete. Beyond the long coat lies a fast, agile, and powerful hunter built for rough terrain.

4. Vizsla — Up to 64 km/h
The Hungarian Pointer. Lean, muscular, and explosive—a high-drive hunting machine.

5. Jack Russell Terrier — Up to 61 km/h
The Pocket Rocket. Small frame, insane acceleration, and relentless energy.

6. Dalmatian — Up to 60 km/h
The Endurance Icon. Historic carriage dog blending rapid speed with legendary stamina.

FAST FACT: A Greyhound reaches its maximum speed within just a few strides thanks to its specialized double-suspension gallop.

Which dog surprised you most? Did you expect a terrier to hit 60+ km/h?

This is a Supported Entry by the Dalmatian Club of the Piedmont, and we’re looking forward to a wonderful day of Dalmatians, friends, and hopefully a few ribbons!

It’s always a thrill to watch a Dalmatian run—but it’s even more fun when there’s a little FRIENDLY rivalry involved! 🐾💨

All day, Bodhi (Brittany’s spot) and Joshua (Karen & Paul’s spot) were battling it out for Fastest Dalmatian, with these two boys literally running within hundredths of a second of each other!

💨 Bodhi: 7.26 & 7.10
💨 Joshua: 7.11 & 7.25

Back and forth we went… Who was going to be fastest? Were we going to end up tied? Would we need a runoff?! 😂

Then, late in the afternoon, Lincoln—a Dalmatian bred by Paul and me and owned by Susan & Steve—showed up and apparently decided the boys had played long enough.

Lincoln ran his spots off! 🏁🐾

🔥 First run: 7.06
🔥 Second run: 7.19

And just like that… Lincoln took Fastest Dalmatian!

Congratulations to Lincoln, Susan & Steve! 🎉

Nothing like a little friendly competition among spotted friends to make a FAST CAT day even more fun! ❤️🐾

🐾 HELP WANTED: Humans Who Can Almost Keep Up With Dogs! 🐾

Fast CAT is happening this weekend, and we need VOLUNTEERS!

The dogs have agreed to do the running. 🐕💨
The bunny has agreed to be chased. 🐰
Now we just need some humans to help keep the whole circus moving! 😂

No Fast CAT experience? No problem! We’ll show you what to do. All you need is a willingness to help, comfortable shoes, and perhaps a sense of humor.

📍 Union County Saddle Club
216 E. Sandy Ridge Rd.
Monroe, NC 28110

Come for a few hours or stay for the day—we’ll happily take whatever time you can give us!

Can you help? 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️

Because without volunteers, it’s basically just a bunch of dogs standing around wondering, “WHEN DO I GET TO CHASE THE BUNNY?!” 🐕💨🐰😂
