New here? Let me share a little about what we do.
Quirky Pickle Education Foundation raises literacy rates through hands-on, screen-free, pen-to-paper learning for all ages. We design creative projects such as letter-writing, penpal exchanges, creative writing, cursive and penmanship workshops, and more, that build reading and writing skills while feeling like play, not work.
Our pilot initiative, Quirky Pickle ClassPals, is a penpal connection program pairing classrooms, homeschool pods, and community groups across the country. Each group receives complete materials: student packs with stickers, stationery, postcards, writing prompts, and activities, plus teacher guides. Title I schools and others demonstrating need qualify for free packs funded by donations and grants. First shipments go out in August 2026 to participating classrooms.
We also serve adult learners, offering literacy support alongside job-seeking skills like resume help. Our workshops are always in a judgment-free, private setting, because adults often hide literacy struggles out of embarrassment and deserve a safe space to learn.
Because hunger is a barrier to learning, we make nourishment available at our programs, so no one is unable to focus, learn, or engage because they are hungry.
We involve high school and college student volunteers, giving them community-service opportunities while they help younger and older learners. Our current goal is a permanent Charleston home for our workshops, growing over time to serve learners nationwide. We believe words are a superpower, and everyone, at every age, deserves to claim it.
