Rebirth, Dry Bones and Grace
With Pentatcost and the move of the Holy Spirit coming up, I've got Ezekiel on the mind. Ezek. 36:25-26, God says He will sprinkle water on us and cleanse us, He will give us a heart of flesh and put a new spirit with us. In Ezek. 37:17-19, God joins together the sticks of Israel and joins them, just like we are one in Christ (John 17:21)
In John 3:5, Jesus states the same about for rebirth: "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit." Jesus speaks of spiritual death ("let the dead bury the dead"; Matt. 8:22) as does Paul in Eph 2:1.
What strikes me in chapter 37, is how dry the bones were, how dead, the Isrealites were. It says, they were very dead. They had no hope.
But God MOVED anyways. God LOVED anyways. God breathed His Holy breath (Ruach) in them to raise them out of the graves and bring them home.
Another huge reminder, our sin is not too great for God. Because God LOVES anyways. Jesus took it all to the cross, and came back with forgiveness and love in His heart. And He is still raising us out of our graves, and taking us home to our Father in Heaven. Our God of Mercy and God of Grace never ceases to amaze me.
That He looked back at humanity's sins of the past, and looked forward to ours (John 17:20), and still said, Yes, I love you this much. You are worth me suffering and dying for. I want you out of that grave and Home with Me. Follow Me.
Come Lord Jesus Come, Breath your Spirit in me!
So What Matters? Jesus matters. And Jesus shows us we one of us does. SO MUCH.
