The Board of Directors for Hope and Health has approved a rather ambitious budget for 2026. It includes building an operating room and some additional structures for patients and their families.

Hope and Health Akot South Sudan board just approved the 2026 budget to include building a much needed operating room. Ours is one of the only facilities still operating in Lakes State as the rest were closed by labor strikes due to staff not being paid. This increases the pressure on the Akot facility.

Commission Peter Njenga to return to Akot in January 2025 and begin renovations which were completed in August 2025.
In April 2025, a small team of US volunteers visited the site
Supervised installation of a Starlink system
Met with community leaders

Enhanced lab services with microscope
Rebuilt School Latrine
A Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Ministry of Health cedes administrative authority to our organization.
Reestablished medical supply chain
Purchased a new vehicle
Purchased materials to set up remote classroom including:
Flat TV for telehealth and remote training
8 Chromebooks
Desktop with camera
Printer
Purchased 30 inpatient beds and visitor mats
Built a duplex guest house
Expanded wifi network
Purchased office equipment
Signed work contracts with all staff
Closed all local “pharmacies”
Equipped the lab for other basis tests
Our staff are working hard, saving lives in difficult conditions with little pay.

Staff safety comes first for us. One problem, among many, is the proper disposal of medical waste. Laborers here are digging a disposal pit that will be used for debris from the incinerator. The incinerator will be built using bricks from our Hydraform machine.
