This has officially been the most complicated and confusing kitten season I’ve had yet.
Doing TNR in the same area has landed me with an army of identical kittens—gray kittens and black kittens—and telling them apart has become a full-time job. They are all the same age as well. Unless they're separated or you're checking their little bums, they all look exactly alike! Even checking their bums you know it’s a boy but is it Simon or Theo!?! 🤷🏼♀️
We tried using colored Velcro collars to keep everyone identified, but the kittens had other plans. They got so playful that they started removing each other's collars, leaving me completely confused about who was who. I've ordered new collars and am hoping they'll stay on much better.
Unfortunately, sometime yesterday, two of the gray kittens appear to have switched places. One got out of a cage and another somehow got in. Normally that wouldn't be a huge deal, but the kittens in that cage are being quarantined because they have ringworm. Now I'm worried about figuring out exactly which kitten is which and whether anyone may have been exposed.
Rescue work is rewarding, but sometimes it's also equal parts detective work, chaos management, and sheer luck. If anyone sees me staring at a gray kitten looking completely confused, just know I'm probably trying to solve the latest kitten mystery!
