Thursday, April 17th, Fresh Start held our monthly Family Fun Night at the Bowden Center. The theme was Easter. Everyone had an AMAZING time! So many youth came out to the event, and their parents with them!
First Mr. Lester Gillespie spoke about gun violence in our community, and ways to deter this.
Police Chief Bobby Hearnes gave a presentation about Stranger Danger. He spoke with them about summer being here soon, and more kids are outside most of the day, he explained to the older youth about the importance making sure to keep an eye on their younger siblings, or friends to make sure that they don't talk to strangers, and the importance of if you see something say something - tell a trusted adult if someone is talking to or trying to get young children to go with them.
Vendors present were the Missouri Extension office, and DAEOC. DAEOC held a raffle for adults completing their survey, and gave away 2 - $50 VISA gift cards. Fresh Start held a raffle for the adults, and gave away 3 - 32 inch smart TVs. We had over 100 children in attendance. Every child received an East Basket and candy. Each youth chose an egg filled with candy. Eight youth chose eggs that had $5 cash in them.
Everyone had hot dogs, chips, and a drink, then the youth lined up to get cotton candy!!!
The smiles on the faces of the youth were priceless! We appreciate all those who came out!
