💙 Today at the Fayette County Senior Picnic, we were reminded just how important the File of Life can be.

A woman stopped by our table to tell us she had picked up a File of Life at one of our previous Fayette County events. As a kidney transplant recipient, she recently experienced a medical emergency, and the EMTs were able to quickly access her medical information from the File of Life on her refrigerator. She shared that it made a real difference in her care.

Stories like this are why we do what we do. If you're at the picnic today, stop by our table and pick up your FREE File of Life. It only takes a few minutes to fill out, but it could make all the difference in an emergency.

Have you ever thought about making a difference in a child's life? The Foster Grandparent Program gives adults age 55+ the opportunity to mentor and support children while earning a tax-free stipend.

One of the best parts? The stipend is designed so it does not count as income for many federal benefit programs, including programs like HUD housing assistance, SNAP, SSI, Medicaid, and others. We'll be happy to answer your questions and explain how the stipend works.

💙 Success Story Spotlight: Foster Grandparent Volunteer Ms. Dayteen 💙

Sometimes, the impact of a Foster Grandparent is simply impossible to put into words.

Ms. Stumpf, a teacher who has had Foster Grandparent volunteer Ms. Dayteen in her classroom for the past two years, began her end-of-year success story with these heartfelt words:

"Writing the success story for Ms. D has been quite difficult. Trying to sum up all the magic that she has created in this classroom is near impossible."

She went on to share that Ms. Dayteen's impact extends far beyond the students in her current classroom. Children from previous years still stop by each morning for their special handshake or simply to say, "Good morning." Students who struggle to connect with others naturally gravitate toward her, finding the love and comfort of a grandmother they may never have had.

This year, Ms. Dayteen worked one-on-one with a young boy who arrived barely able to sound out words. Every morning, she patiently read with him, encouraged him, and believed in him. By the end of the school year, he had made incredible progress—not only in reading, but in confidence, courage, and pride in himself.

Ms. Stumpf summed it up perfectly:

"Ms. D loves hard, works hard, and has a huge impact on all she has encountered at my school... She doesn't have one success story. She has more than I can count."

This is the heart of the AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program. ❤️ Our volunteers don't just help children succeed academically—they build confidence, provide unconditional encouragement, and become trusted, caring adults in the lives of children who need them most.
