This is encouraging news for the pancreatic cancer community and a reminder that research is moving forward.

A few important points. This was an early Phase I clinical trial involving only 20 high-risk participants. The results showed the vaccine was safe and triggered a strong immune response in 90% of those enrolled. That is a significant first step.

While no participants developed pancreatic cancer during the 16.5-month follow-up, this study was not designed to prove the vaccine prevents cancer. Larger clinical trials are now needed.

STRONGER DEFENSE: An experimental pancreatic cancer vaccine triggers immune response in 90% of high-risk patients in Johns Hopkins trial.

The vaccine, called mKRAS-VAX, targets the gene mutation that drives more than 90% of the deadliest form of pancreatic cancer — and after 16.5 months of follow-up, no participant developed the disease.

Some pancreatic cysts shrank or disappeared in over a third of vaccinated individuals, though researchers say larger studies are needed to confirm the vaccine caused the effect.

Our days at Islands Against Cancer, Inc start early and end late. We are forever working on ways to ease the worries and the stress/anxiety of the warriors and families we serve by creating programs and services to support them as they walk the winding roads of cancer care.

We also have the welcomed responsibility of acknowledging and thanking those that make our work possible through their ongoing support.

This morning we begin thanking those that have contributed to our cause in the memory of one of our sweet Islands Against Cancer, Inc warriors. She made a real impact with her beautiful life and in her passing she continues to shine light on so many.

We will continue our work in her name and the name of all others that ask us to stand strong with warriors and their families during time of need.

We are Islands Against Cancer and together we are all, UNBREAKABLE!

Too many cancer patients leave appointments overwhelmed.

Not because their care wasn't excellent.

Because today's healthcare system is increasingly digital.

Many patients, especially older adults, leave their appointments wondering:

Today was an exciting day for Islands Against Cancer, Inc.

We had the privilege of meeting with multiple Patient Navigators from Johns Hopkins to share our mission, the resources we provide, and how we help cancer warriors and caregivers navigate today’s healthcare system.

By the end of the meeting, we agreed to expand our relationship and begin providing our resources to even more warriors. Every new partnership means more people will have access to advocacy, education, technology support, and the encouragement they deserve during one of the most difficult times in their lives.

None of this happens without you.

To every volunteer, donor, sponsor, partner, and supporter who has believed in our mission from the beginning or joined us along the way, thank you. Your support reaches far beyond our local community. It is creating opportunities to serve warriors and caregivers wherever the need exists.

Together, we are proving that no one organization fights cancer alone.
