What do people mean when they talk about a classical curriculum?

In practice, classical education often draws from established, content-rich programs such as:
• Hillsdale’s K–12 curriculum
• Core Knowledge
• Singapore Math
• traditional phonics programs
• classical literature and history built around primary sources

While these curricula differ in structure, they share key commitments: strong reading foundations, math fluency, chronological history, great books, and explicit instruction in writing and reasoning.

As interest in classical education grows in Jefferson County, it’s helpful for families to become familiar with the kinds of curricula classical schools commonly evaluate and use.

What Is the Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS)?

The ACCS is a leading organization behind the growing movement to restore timeless, Christ-centered education.

The ACCS helps schools build, grow, and thrive using a model that unites faith and learning through the Western classical tradition. Their mission is to train students to think deeply, love truth, and live for Christ.

They accredit classical Christian schools, ensuring they meet high standards of academic and spiritual excellence. They equip schools and educators with training, resources, and a national network of support. They also advocate for classical Christian education across the country and help parents find schools that put Christ at the center of every subject.

The ACCS represents hundreds of member schools and tens of thousands of students who are learning to seek Truth, Goodness, and Beauty for the glory of God.

What is a classical Christian education?
