Join us for Connected Hearts, Created Arts—a relaxed, air-conditioned morning of crafts, games, and connections for LGBTQ+ individuals, families, and allies across our community. Whether you want to beat the heat with an iced drink, make a custom Pride flag bracelet, or play a game of Uno, there’s a seat at the table for you.

On this day in 1865, federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to ensure that all enslaved people be freed, as declared by the Emancipation Proclamation signed a full two and a half years prior. Known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, and most commonly referred to as Juneteenth, this anniversary is cause for celebration as well as reflection.

The history of the United States is one riddled with battles for freedom, justice, and equality. Our African American loved ones, including and especially those who are LGBTQ+, still fight discrimination due to their marginalized identities.

🚨 After several delays, the House will vote on H.R. 2616 TOMORROW, May 20th. If passed, it would strip federal funds from schools that acknowledge transgender people exist, whether it’s in coursework, a library resource, or even for using a student’s correct name and pronouns in the classroom.

H.R. 2616 would effectively ban any books and other classroom materials that reflect the real lives and experiences of transgender and nonbinary students, as well as impose forced outing policies on school districts around the country. Public schools should be places where young people can feel safe, learn, explore ideas, and see themselves reflected in the stories they read. But this bill threatens that principle.
