We’re turning empty litter containers into something useful for our community cats!

Before you toss one of these large plastic kitty litter containers, Save a Stray Foundation would love to have it. ❤️
Our volunteers repurpose them into feeding and water stations for the community cat colonies we care for. Just look at the before and after! ➡️🐾

It’s a simple item that might otherwise end up in the trash, but for us it can become something we use again and again to help care for the kitties.
If you have clean, empty litter containers like the one pictured, please save them for us! Comment below or message us and we can coordinate.
From kitty litter container to kitty feeding station. 😻♻️
We love a good recycle!

Thank you for always finding ways, big and small, to help our cats. ❤️🐾

When Arizona gets rain, most of us celebrate. 🌧️❤️
Colony feeders celebrate too…just with a tiny bit of panic mixed in. 😹 Because while our desert desperately needs the rain, community cats still need to eat.

Rain can soak outdoor food, feeding stations need extra attention, and insect protection we’ve carefully put down can wash away, which means another trip out and another round of work.

These photos were taken on dry days and show a little of what happens behind the scenes: loading the vehicle with food and water, traveling to colonies, filling stations, checking on the cats and making sure everyone has what they need.
Our volunteers help care for more than 60 community cat colonies, and those cats depend on their caretakers regardless of what the Arizona sky decides to do.

So we’re grateful for every drop of rain…
…but we’d also like to have a quick word with whoever scheduled it during feeding time. 😂🌧️

To all of our wonderful colony feeders who keep showing up in the heat, wind and rain, thank you. The cats may not be able to say it, but we know they count on you. ❤️

Remember our handsome Sammy? 🥰🐾

After sharing his landfill-to-sanctuary story, so many of you commented on what a beautiful boy he is. We thought you might enjoy seeing a little more of his everyday life. ❤️

Sammy is still very shy and prefers to observe his humans from the safety of one of his favorite spots. Even after several years at the sanctuary, he likes life on his terms and at his own pace, and we respect that.

Not every rescued cat needs to become a lap cat to have a happy ending. For Sammy, happiness means having his cat friends, his catio, cozy hiding places, plenty of food, and people who care for him without asking him to be anything other than himself.

From living at a landfill to having a safe place that will always be his…

This is Sammy’s happy ending 🥰❤️

🐾 Meet Sammy ❤️

Four years ago, Sammy’s life looked very different.

He and approximately nine other cats were living at a landfill in Apache Junction. When Save a Stray Foundation discovered the conditions these cats were living in, we immediately began working to rescue them.

Five were kittens young enough to be socialized and eventually adopted. But Sammy and the other adult cats were extremely skittish and weren’t candidates for traditional adoption.

That didn’t mean they didn’t deserve a home. ❤️

Sammy became a permanent resident of our sanctuary, where he could finally have a safe place to live, plenty of food, and the care he needed.

Four years later, he’s still our shy Sammy. 🥰 Getting a good picture of him is quite an accomplishment, when he sees us coming, he often heads straight for one of his condos!

Sammy is a wonderful reminder of why sanctuaries matter. Some cats may never become lap cats or live comfortably in a traditional home, but their lives are every bit as valuable.

We’ll have another update about Sammy soon, so please stay tuned. 🐾💕

🎉🐾 Trio Fantastico Update - We’re Down to a Duo! ❤️

We have some wonderful news to share, Smurffie was adopted this weekend and has found his forever home! 🏡

That means our Trio Fantastico is now a Dynamic Duo - Essie & Patrick! ❤️❤️ Both are still waiting for that special someone to choose them.

But the duo may not stay a duo for long… 👀
Another Save a Stray kitty will be joining our adoptable crew very soon!

Stay tuned for the introduction. ❤️🐾

And in the meantime, please keep sharing Essie and Patrick so we can turn our Dynamic Duo into two more happy adoption stories! 🏡💕

🏡🐾 We’re Almost There But We Need a Few Helping Hands! 🔨❤️

For the past few months, Save a Stray Foundation volunteers have been working to turn our founder’s air-conditioned garage into a safe little sanctuary for rescued cats.

We’ve made wonderful progress, but there are still a few projects standing between us and our hoped-for October 1 opening.

We need help assembling cat furniture, closing in two small areas for storage, and tackling one stubborn bench that has apparently decided it does NOT want to cooperate. 😹

This sanctuary will give rescued cats a safe place to recover, be socialized and prepare for adoption, as well as provide loving long-term care for cats who need it. ❤️

If you have some handyman/handywoman skills, or simply a little time and willingness to help, we would love to hear from you!

Please message us, and feel free to share this post with someone who might be able to lend a hand. 🐱🔨❤️

🐾 Meet Our Trio Fantastico! 🐾

Right now, Save a Stray Foundation has three wonderful cats waiting for their forever homes - Smurffie, Essie & Patrick!

💙 Smurffie: Our gorgeous blue-eyed, 8-year-old love bug! Mellow, gentle, fun, and a wonderful lap cat. He gets along well with other cats and definitely appreciates his wet food.

💕 Essie: A petite, sweet 1-year-old tortie girl who loves treats, wet food, and affection. A beautiful little lady looking for someone to call her own.

🧡 Patrick: A handsome 2-year-old boy with the most unique look — mostly white with beautiful orange patches around his ears and eyes and an orange tail. He’s very loving and gets along well with other cats.

Three different personalities, three beautiful faces, and three kitties hoping someone will choose them.

🏡 Could one of our Trio Fantastico be your new best friend?

You can see their profiles and learn more on our Petfinder page:
