It's S.E.E.D.S. Sunday and today our member in spotlight is Aiman Ghani!

Aiman would like to share the following with us:

"hi! i’m aiman ghani 🌿😌🌻💛i’m going to be a published author one day soon of my debut middle grade novel (fingers crossed). i’m super proud to be American, to be Pakistani, to be Muslim, and to be a woman. i love reading, writing, and learning sign language and have sooo many interests i can’t figure out what to pursue post-grad 😝 SEEDS is my favorite club and has made a huge impact on my well-being. my entire schooling, including UIUC, has involved White instructors and majority-White classes. it’s an experience painful beyond words. SEEDS has changed my life by coming right when i thought i’d break - it’s given me hope, shown me there’s more POC in the CoE than i thought, and let me feel, for the first time in this program, that i’m not alone. i look forward to every meeting - regular & Mindfulness Monday - and am blown away by the organization of this club. i can’t wait for us all to be teachers one day and to, little by little, take our rightful spots as leaders for kids to look up to in our country so they never have to doubt if they belong or not 🥳🌱✨🪐"

Emily has a passion for helping others and believes that our students today are the future so it is important to put all our love, time, and resources into them. Emily would like to share the following with us:

"Representation matters and being able to teach in an underrepresented community to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment means the world to me. Also believe me mental health and healing matters so I plan to include social and emotional-learning in my classroom this fall. I also graduate this semester. And plan to teach out of state this fall. Want everyone to know, please dm me if any one ever needs someone to talk to or help with whatever I’m always here and ready to be an ear!"

It's S.E.E.D.S. Sunday and today our member in spotlight is Jose!

Jose would like to share the following with us:
"I’m studying history and secondary education, and I’m getting an endorsement in English and political science.

I have always had an affinity for teaching. And after experiencing the way education has changed my life, I feel like it is my duty to provide the same experience for as many people as possible. That is why I chose to pursue education. Educators have the responsibility of shaping and empowering the minds of the people who will be the future. With less than 10% of all educators being Latine (and even less being latino men), I need not express the importance of representation. And with that being said, I understand the importance of having educators and role models who students can see themselves in.

Some books I recommend reading are: The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander and (my personal favorite) Becoming by Michelle Obama"

It's S.E.E.D.S Sunday and our member in spotlight is Brenda Ramirez!

Brenda is a junior majoring in Early Childhood Education and would like to share the following with us:

"Hi my name is Brenda! I just want to say I am so grateful for seeds. I love being able to have conversations about social justice with such inspirational and intelligent individuals. Seeds has allowed me to speak up and feel comfortable voicing my opinions because it’s not something that I usually do. Going to each meeting is one of my favorite things to do because it feels like another home away from home and I’m really appreciative of that."

It's S.E.E.D.S Sunday and our member in highlight for this week is Derek Brown!

Derek is a freshman majoring in Middle Grades Education. Derek would like to share the following with us:

"I am passionate about teaching because my teachers were there for me throughout my academic career and were more than just physical support they also mentally helped pushed me through dark times. I chose SEEDS because there was a group of individuals who also looked like me and faced the same issues as I and feels like an extremely healthy group."

❗It's S.E.E.D.S. Sunday and today's member in highlight is Lorena! She would like to share the following with us...❗

"Hi everyone!! My name is Lorena, and I’m an Early Ed Major, minoring in Spanish and Endorsing in ESL and Bilingualism. I’m very passionate for teaching and making an impact on the future! Ive always loved to teach but never knew I had the potential for it, until I took a leap of faith and here we are now. I joined Seeds this semester to be more involved with students that I could relate to and future educators with the same vision of being social justice in the classroom. I hope to become a principal (elementary or HS) in the future after gaining some hands on experience at CPS or in my hometown district.”

My favorite quote is “knowledge is power”.
