Our volunteer designers cranked out even more arrangements last week.

It wasn’t set up as assignments but each designer “gravitated” to Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.

One of our designers, Pam Stonner, (donates her talents also for St. Stanislaus, Wardsville, MO as Chairman of Art and Environment) is a miracle worker with all the holiday flowers.

Enjoy these five pics of some of Pam’s talent.

I must mention…as we number these florals…it is for “THAT” floral. We don’t have the ingredients to reproduce. So “speak now” if you want to purchase what you see.

FCC will work out delivery. We’re not Amazon, but we will make it happen!

The team of volunteer designers was running on all cylinders last week as we created the first of many tombstone arrangements. Scroll through the pictures to see video. The response of people donating unwanted silk flowers has been tremendous and we are still accepting!

The $50.00 saddle style arrangements will be sold at Chamois Day, September 19 and Cemetery Wqlk on October 3.

As we showcase some of the collection, they can be purchased in advance. Just give a call: 913-522-7610.

Important things happening for FCC!

“Recycled Blooms” needs your unwanted silk flowers…right now…please.

Drop off Points, Chamois: Jerry’s, UCC and Catholic Churches.

Linn: U.D., the Library and St. George’s

Westphalia: Legends Bank

Frankenstein: Catholic Church

Folk: Catholic Church.

The Chamois Fire Station becomes our “Flower Factory” on August 14.
This is our first year of this annual project. Worker Bee’s will sort out the donations by color, prep the flowers and the four designers will create as many tombstone arrangements for which we have flowers. However, I suspect that once this “catches on,” we will have gobs of trash bags of silk flowers come in past August 14. Bring them on! (And we will design some more.) The tombstone arrangements ($50.00) will be available at Chamois Day (Sept. 19) and Cemetery Walk (October 3.) MJN

We welcomed an out-of- state guest last week to tour the cemeteries.

David Hutchison, Long Beach, California paid his respects at the restored Hutchison Family Plot in the City Cemetery.

Though are many other Hutchisons buried there, David is photographed standing in the midst of his Grandparents Alice and Farnham Hutchison; his Great-Grandmother, Kate Hutchison; and his Great-Great-Grandmother, Jennie Hutchison.

After landing in Kansas City, I invited him to lunch and then he was welcomed in Chamois by Jeffrey and Pamela Kormann .All of our board remembers David’s grandparents fondly.

“This is incredibly amazing! Two thumbs up,” said this descendent of one of Chamois’ leading families…for five generations.

Their’s will be one of the six honored families at our Cemetery Walk on Saturday, October 3. MJN

Inviting people to financially help is non-stop! And we’re learning that people want to be a part of the success story!

Our next fundraiser is the program called “Recycled Blooms.”

The concept? Repurpose unwanted silk flowers into tombstone saddle arrangements. The new florals will be sold for only $50.00 at Chamois Day, (9-13) and Cemetery Walk (10-04.)

We will have Drop-Off Tubs in the county through August. Text me to learn where is your closest: 913-522-7610.

Our Thank You to the Drop Off points is a $100.00 arrangement that they can sell/award/raffle as they please.

My 94-year-old Aunt Esther (KC) has now contributed two huge loads of artificial lovelies. Doesn’t everyone have an “Aunt Esther?” MJN

You know how there’s that “one thing“you forgot to mention?

No where in our ten speeches, did we share the history of the pulpit.

Founded in 1872, the Black Christin church was the last one (of the three Black churches) standing in Chamois.

What more mysterious playground could there be for kids than an abandoned church? The pump organ was there, the hymnals in the pews, all the pews and this pulpit. Matching wainscoting encircled the chancel where this pulpit stood. It was like the congregation just walked out and never came back.

The lucky Nolte’s lived just a house away from the Paul Mehmert family. The church was next door to them and you’ve never heard such singing and preaching as we did with the Mehmert kids when we would “Play Church.” It was located near the hat factory.

I’ve been told that the Mehmert’s two-story house was “rolled” from Main Street to its present location, next to the church.

The coolest thing (besides that working organ) was the steeple with a bell. Our mothers would not allow us to pull that rope…for fear of upsetting neighbors. BUT once our Moms went to Jeff City for the day, we never let that bell rest!

In 1965, Paul razed the church and a neighbor man, Pat Murphy, retrieved the pulpit. He sold it to the City for $5.00 and all these years its rested, unwanted, at City Hall/Fire Station.

Thanks to Rhonda Mitchem’s TLC, that pulpit “rose from the dead” for our cemetery ceremony. (Pun intended!)

The bell was later acquired by the Baptist Church. It was very appropriate that Jerry Berry, a Baptist preacher, would have the last “colored people’s” bell at a Baptist church. And equally appropriate to have that last pulpit revitalized for a ceremony to honor him…a man of faith. MJN
