Last week, members of PHCC, along with our partners ACCA and ASA, gathered in Washington, D.C. for the annual Legislative Conference to advocate for the plumbing and HVACR industry and meet directly with lawmakers to discuss issues impacting contractors (Workforce development, energy policy, small business, and the future of the skilled trades).

Thank you to everyone who participated and represented our industry with professionalism and passion. Advocacy matters — and strong participation helps protect and strengthen the future of our trades.

The Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors—National Association (PHCC) welcomes the opportunity to highlight the vital contributions of the plumbing profession in response to Jimmy Kimmel's recent comments regarding the appointment of Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin.

We recognize that Mr. Kimmel's remarks were made in the spirit of political commentary. However, we do see this as a valuable moment to share what those of us in the trades have long known: plumbing is among the most highly skilled, rigorously trained, and essential professions in the country.

Plumbing professionals protect the water we drink, safely manage the wastewater we generate, and construct and maintain the medical gas systems that deliver life-saving oxygen and critical gases to patients in hospitals across the nation every day. These are not incidental contributions—they are foundational to public health, quality of life, and life expectancy for every American.
So when Mr. Kimmel remarked that "we have a plumber protecting us," we would simply note that he was more correct than he may have intended. Plumbers have been protecting the American public for generations—and we are proud of it.
