The Central AL NDA Branch and the Alabama Forestry Association hosted a learn and burn field day in March. Attendees learned how to use prescribed fire to increase productivity of wildlife habitat. During the outing, participants used tools to conduct burns on a host property in Shelby County. Habitat improvement is one of the key pillars of the NDA.

The rut is on across Alabama and several Central Branch members have taken nice bucks in the past couple weeks. These deer span the state including Barbour, Clay and St. Claire Counties. Who else has had success recently?

The Central Alabama NDA Branch hosted its first Field to Fork event this past weekend. Branch members guided two new hunters, one of whom got their first deer! The event was a great learning experience and both new hunters are excited to get back in the woods again. The Central Branch looks forward to introducing more people to hunting at future events.

The Central Alabama NDA Branch is gearing up to host its first Field To Fork hunt in January. This past weekend, branch members assisted two new hunters with their Hunter’s Education class and teaching them to shoot rifles proficiently at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park. Good luck to our new hunters when they head afield next month!

Members of the Central Alabama NDA Branch assisted in Moultrie’s 2nd Annual Field to Fork hunt in northeast Alabama last week. Six new hunters went afield with six hunting mentors (Moultrie trail camera employees), and three hunters harvested their first deer.

The new hunters enjoyed sharing a hunt camp and learning about the importance of deer and habitat management, and obtaining wild game meat for consumption. Each hunter completed their hunter’s education course, bought an Alabama hunting license, learned to shoot a rifle proficiently during a range day, and got up early to deer hunt each day.

The Central Alabama Branch is committed to passing down the great tradition of deer hunting to new hunters. If you’re interested in joining the Central Alabama Branch, drop us a message with your name and email, and we’ll reach out.

While most Alabama hunters are still focused on hunting a bed-feed cycle, much of the whitetail world is in full rut. Central Alabama branch member, Mark Olis, recently returned from a Texas “rutcation”! Any one else hit the road in November? https://deerassociation.com/peak-rut-map-usa-nda-1200/

In June, the National Deer Association (NDA) organized a public land cleanup at the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area. That event led to the formation of a new NDA chapter, the Central Alabama Chapter. The chapter’s mission is to promote hunting, healthy habitat, and the benefits of sustainable natural resources in central Alabama. This includes Field-to-Fork hunts, where we introduce people to hunting for the first time; field days, where members can learn about prescribed burning, habitat management, and wildlife conservation; and venison donations to local food banks, which help feed those in need in our communities. The Central Alabama chapter can only be as strong as its members, so please join today and help build something special in and around the Birmingham area. https://deerassociation.com/join/
