Good morning and happy Friday! It's been a busy work week. So, I have not been able to do much in the way of making progress on the spay program. We are working on ideas to raise money for spays for the community. I am reaching out to contacts I have that previously had large amounts of cat supplies that they were not using. I am also going to find some other resources to assist with feeding the cats we have in our community. I will also be calling some local vet offices to see who would help with spay pricing. If anyone has any leads for anything I've mentioned, please let me know, and I will contact them.

Kitty update: These babies are doing so well. Their momma is so attentive. She only leaves to go potty. They all have their eyes open too!

We are currently working on starting a project to help prevent unwanted cat litters around our community in Centerville, NC. For everyone that lives in the area, we know this can quickly become a huge problem. A lot of us love our strays. We are happy to provide food and outdoor shelter, but we cannot afford to spay or neuter every stray that shows up. This is where Paws for Fewer Litters comes into play. We will set up Caretaker Homes, and work with those homes to have all of the females spayed to prevent more unwanted litters and overpopulation. This is phase 1. I will share our plans for expansion soon.

What is a Caretaker Home? A Caretaker Home is a home that is happy to allow cats to live on their property and provide adequate food and shelter. They are committed to being attentive to the cats on their property and keep details on those cats so we can know how many females will need to be fixed. They do their best to ensure the safety of those cats, and possibly take on more. Eight cats will be the minimum number of cats to qualify as a Caretaker Home. We will work to spay all of the females at the house with the most females first and work our way down to the house with the least.

We will be working on obtaining a 501-c and becoming a legal entity, but we will need proof of what we are doing, and that we are being honest. This is where YOU come in. All of this will rely on donations from our community. We will be accepting cat supplies, dewormer, and money. We will track all donations and keep a visible log of where everything goes for full transparency. We will also be working with local vets to try to find the best pricing so donations stretch as far as possible. We want every cent to make a difference. We will not be taking any money at all for ourselves. This will solely be a labor of love. We know we can't change the world, but we can start with our community.
