Women Are Safe, Inc. Women Are Safe, Inc. is a non-profit providing services to victims of domestic violence in rural TN

began in 1987 as a volunteer effort to provide shelter and safety to victims of domestic violence in Hickman County, Tennessee. Today, we have nine volunteer board members, an Executive Director, Program Assistant, three advocates and a DCS Liaison dedicated to our mission of serving the immediate needs of domestic violence victims in five rural Tennessee counties. Each year we serve hundreds of v

ictims through our core services: a 24-hour confidential crisis line; safe, temporary shelter; court advocacy; transportation; education about the dynamics of domestic violence; support groups; referrals to community resources; and advocacy. In 2020 we provided 3031 safe bednights at our shelters for domestic violence victims. 49.7% of our bednights were provided to adults and 50.2% were to children, who would have otherwise been homeless because of domestic violence.

For nearly 40 years, Women Are Safe has served our community as a place of refuge, advocacy, and hope for survivors of domestic violence.

Over the years, our work has grown to serve all victims — women, men, and children.
Because of that, we will be making a small but meaningful change this summer.

Beginning July 1, Women Are Safe will become We Are Safe.

This change reflects the inclusive mission we have been living out for many years.

What is not changing:
• Our services
• Our staff
• Our commitment to survivors

We are the same organization — with the same heart — now with a name that welcomes everyone who needs safety.
