I’ve spent a long time engineering software, and I am completely exhausted by what the internet has become. Every major platform is a bloated outrage machine engineered to manipulate your attention for ad dollars.
But the biggest tragedy isn't just the algorithms. It’s the fact that we can no longer ask genuine questions or connect locally without a catch, without a gate —and that is a shame.
The current system forces us to self-censor out of fear.
Think about it from both sides of the fence:
For Users: Because every platform forces a permanent digital reputation on you, people self-censor. You can’t ask sensitive, raw, or high-intent local questions without a public profile anchoring it to your name forever. On top of that, you are bombarded by tracking cookies and irrelevant, noisy ads when all you really want are genuine, useful updates and actual value from businesses right down the street.
For Local Businesses: Small businesses are trapped in an embarrassing loop. To reach a customer living three miles away, a local business owner is forced to pay endless ad dollars to Meta or do a ridiculous "Instagram dance" hoping the algorithm favors them. They are spending massive amounts of time and money playing content creator instead of just serving their city.
The system is broken for everyone. I got so tired of this BS that I wanted to engineer a direct bridge. A platform built with the exact opposite rules of the corporate giants.
That is why Seek or Say exists.
Flipping the Script for Cities, Users, and Businesses
We didn't just build another app; we engineered a private, city-wide communication utility. We threw out the corporate playbook to build an architecture that protects the local ecosystem:
1. Private Profiles, Public Freedom: Your profile is strictly for your own account management—it is completely hidden from the public. No public history tracking, no follower counts, no public bios. No one knows a single thing about you except the text of your active post. You can finally ask the real, high-intent questions you need answers to, completely unburdened.
2. Controlled Response Caps: You post a query to your city, limit it to the exact number of responses you actually want (like 5 or 10), and the thread automatically closes. Your phone stops buzzing. We engineered this to completely end the toxic, infinite notification loops designed to steal your time.
3. Enforced Auto-Expiration: Real-world conversations don't leave a permanent paper trail. On our platform, your activity vanishes from the city feed automatically when you decide. We reject the role of data custodian; your data belongs to you.
4. Pure City-Wide Reach (A >5 Mile Pulse): Whether you are a resident looking for an honest recommendation, a traveler keeping tabs on your home base, or a local business launching a flash deal—you can reach an entire city radius instantly. No algorithmic gatekeepers, no follower-count penalties.
5. Zero Tracking Ads, High-Value Offers: Users hate tracking cookies, but they love real, local value. Because businesses don't have to trick an algorithm to be seen on Seek or Say, they can push direct, high-value flash offers straight to the city pulse without the social media gymnastics.
The Battle for Growth
We constantly complain about shadowbanning, privacy violations, and the noise of the modern web. Seek or Say is our architectural proof-of-concept that a cleaner, unmanipulated local internet is possible.
But moving a society away from algorithmic entertainment and back to high-intent utility means breaking decades of behavioral inertia.
We want to open this up to the community: How do we best bridge this gap? If you are a user, would you use a profile-hidden tool to finally ask the questions you've been holding back? And if you are a small business owner, are you ready to quit the social media circus? Let's talk about how we actually shift the paradigm.
Access the Utility / Join the Experiment
If you are ready to stop playing the algorithmic game and want to experience what a private, city-wide pulse actually feels like, Seek or Say is live.
Download for iOS / Android
We are actively deploying and testing this architecture. No tracking, no public profiles, no social media gymnastics—just a clean, high-intent line of sight into your city. Download it, test the boundaries, and let us know where we can sharpen the engine.
