The end of the year is always bittersweet! 😢
It was our last Garden of Oz meeting for the ‘25-‘26 school year this afternoon.
We ended with a party(a big thanks to Ms. Jennifer for picking up the goodies!), a couple of games and a final garden clean up! We were also surprised by a visit from one of the member’s pet dove, Coconut!
We sure will miss our 4th & 5th graders next year. We hope everyone has a wonderful summer ( maybe some time in the garden)! 😊

What better place to celebrate Earth Day than the Garden of Oz! Ms. Beth presented a lesson on taking care of our earth then the students tied hangers on their dough ornaments and decorated small pots. The big event was taking plants out of their large garden tubs for transplanting at home. It was fun to decide which plants were weeds and which were from the flower seeds and potatoes they planted a few weeks ago. Lots of fun and lots of smiles!

It’s finally here! Planting season has begun in the Garden of Oz! Today the students learned all about seeds and planting from Ms. Piper, president of Celina Garden Club. The kids planted a variety of of flowers and we’re hopeful they’ll be blooming before school is out 🤞🏻! They also planted irises or lilies and onions & potatoes. Of course we pulled weeds too- lots of them 😔😀!

Hope your gardeners gave you their belated Valentine gift. They had fun filling sachet bags with lavender or rose petals (forgot to get pics!). Afterwards we went outside and enjoyed the warm sun and fresh air. The students cleared out their planters so they could be ready for planting next class. The garden needed a lot of clean up so we spent the remainder of the time weeding!

Yesterday was a fun learning experience for the kids in the garden. We had a speaker, Lisa Herrick, who likes to be known as the Pond Dork! We all learned the various ways to make a pond for our own front yard, back yard, porch or patio. Most of the items Lisa used are already in our home! The kids got an interesting hand out with good information. Check their backpack for the handout! At the end of the session we went outside so the kids could check the condition of their pots after the ice storm. There isn’t much growing now but we will be planting seeds soon!

It was great to be back with the kiddos yesterday! We worked inside most of the time due to heavy winds. Ms. Linda did a fun lesson about birds…trivia game, listening to bird sounds, and making a bird feeder using an embroidery hoop. Hope everyone has a spot for hanging!
