Celebrate National Pet Week® May 3-9, 2026
National Pet Week® celebrates the pets that enrich our lives and highlights simple ways to help keep them healthy and happy all year long. Created by the AVMA and the Auxiliary to the AVMA in 1981, it's observed during the first full week of May each year.

Whether companion, comedian, confidant, or protector, our pets are always there for us. National Pet Week® celebrates this special bond and encourages pet owners to give their best friends everything they need to thrive. Veterinarians, veterinary technicians, school groups, and communities host a variety of fun and informative events throughout the week.

Everyone loves their pets, but many may not realize all the steps that can help them stay happy and healthy into their senior years. AVMA's member veterinarians—experts in animal health, welfare, and behavior—invite you to take each of the essential actions highlighted during National Pet Week® to help you and your pet enjoy a lifetime of love.

Daily themes
Each day of the week focuses on a different topic that supports pet health and wellbeing.

POST YOUR PRACTICE PICS - How are you celebrating National Pet Week (I know - every day is pet day to us, but :) let's humor the boards this week with some great pictures!)
Finn and Koda; our granddogs :) they LOVE their veterinary practice!

Strengthening The Credentialed Veterinary Technician Profession
Credentialed veterinary technicians play an essential role in veterinary medicine, yet many lack access to the leadership development, professional resources, and collaborative community needed to grow within the profession.
AACVT exists to change that.
